Terrorist Watch List Hits One Million Names

Irishman says...

"1.000.000 names and 20.000 added every month. 800 FEMA camps, capacity unknown. The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold approximately 2 million people."

"National Security Act of 1947 allows for the strategic relocation of industries, services, government and other essential economic activities, and to rationalize the requirements for manpower, resources and production facilities.

1950 Defense Production Act gives the President sweeping powers over all aspects of the economy.

Act of August 29, 1916 authorizes the Secretary of the Army, in time of war, to take possession of any transportation system for transporting troops, material, or any other purpose related to the emergency.

International Emergency Economic Powers Act enables the President to seize the property of a foreign country or national. These powers were transferred to FEMA in a sweeping consolidation in 1979."

Hillary Clinton tells huge freaking lie about trip to Bosnia

LeadingZero says...

But you do all know that Hillary Clinton was named after Sir Edmund Hillary of Mt Everest Fame, right?

For more than a decade, Sen. Clinton’s informal biography repeated the story, and it was recounted in Bill Clinton’s 2004 autobiography, My Life.

The problem with the story, however, is one of timing. Sir Edmund became known to the world only in 1953, after becoming the first men to reach Everest’s summit. Sen. Clinton was born in 1947.

Senator Clinton finally issued a correction on the matter on March 17th.

AK-47 vs M-16

MarineGunrock says...

Farhad2000:
You want to talk about a weapon and it's inferiority because of it's age? The AK-47 was designed in 1947 - and it hasn't changed a bit. The AK-74 is a completely different weapon with an entirely different round (@ 5.45mm whereas the AK-47 has a 7.62mm round). Just because something is old does not make it outdated. Yes, there are better weapons being developed, like the new Heckler and Koch, but for now, we have the M16A4, which is a fine weapon.

Look at the Browning M2 .50 cal. Machine gun: It has been in service since 1921, and is a hell of a weapon, still going strong today.

Yes, the M16A1 might have done poorly in Vietnam, but our troops were still using the M14 then, so the introduction to a new weapon meant little time in training, and it might have jammed more than the M14 with equivalent cleaning, so that might have skewed reports of reliability.

Fiver2: Soldiers prefer a weapon that can actually hits the target, hence the M16. Don't tell me what soldiers want. So long as you maintain your weapon, the M16 is reliable. I know mine was.

Abducted: I'm not really sure where you were going with that.

Arsenault185: Take better care of it next time. Also, we used to have contests in the squadbays to see who could disassemble and reassemble an M16 the fastest - while blindfolded. It never really look longer than a minute and a half.

WWII Newsreel of Exploding Sodium

silvercord says...

In 1947, this was how they disposed of hazardous materials. 20,000 pounds of sodium were dumped into Lake Lenore in Washington State. You may remember tossing small amounts of sodium into water in high school chemistry class, so you can guess what happens.

Bush Appoints Himself Dictator

Diogenes says...

sheesh guys, the tinfoil hats won't help you if you keep licking toads

are these powers *new*?? truly? have you checked? nope, guess you haven't...

the first of these types of acts was in 1947, by the truman administration (national security act)

they can all be generalized as 'continuity of operations' plans... and most presidential administrations since eisenhower have updated and revised them -- carter, reagan, h.w. bush, clinton, and now g.w. bush

why do they need to update and/or revise the plans??

well, things change in a technological, organizational, as well as global political context, e.g. cold war (beginning and end), fema, the internet, 9-11, terrorism, homeland security, and rogue states

many of you seem determined to drum up this ballyhoo and shit your knickers over the supposed implications... but at least check the background and know the facts -- THIS IS NOTHING NEW

Andy Card receives honorary diploma

Farhad2000 says...

In 2007, Card received an honorary degree in public service from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The decision by the university administration to give Card the degree was met with protests and petitions from thousands of university students, faculty, staff, and community members. They argued that Card played a leading role in disseminating deceptive and misleading evidence to justify the Iraq War. At the May 25, 2007 graduate school commencement ceremony, hundreds of students, faculty, and staff protested the award with boos and catcalls as Andrew Card accepted the degree. Protesters, including many faculty on stage, drowned out Provost Charlena Seymour's remarks, asserting that Card lied about the Iraq war.

Andrew Hill "Andy" Card Jr. (born May 10, 1947) is an American businessman, former state legislator, and was President George W. Bush's first White House Chief of Staff and the head of the White House Iraq Group. He announced his resignation on March 28, 2006 and it became effective April 14, 2006. He assisted the President with many of his policy decisions and managed the daily operations of the White House staff. Prior to serving as Chief of Staff under his son, served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation under George H. W. Bush.

A native of Holbrook, Massachusetts, he and his wife Kathleene have three children and four grandchildren. A dedicated Chief of Staff, his wife once asked "Are you married to me or George W. Bush?".

Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land

quantumushroom says...

Palestine was designated as the Jewish National Home by the League of Nations, enshrining this designation in international law. Why should the Jewish people give up any part of Palestine?

The notion of a "Palestinian people" was born circa 1969, when the North Vietnamese tutored the terrorist PLO on how to subvert public opinion in the West. Neither UN resolution 191 of 29 Nov 1947 nor SC resolution 242 mention Palestinians in any way. There is, in fact, no such people as "Palestinians" - the Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are indistinguishable from the Arabs in Jordan, for example. Why should these Arabs have yet another state, at the expense of the Jewish National Home?

I'm glad Noam Chumpsky appears early: this ludicrous, proven liar spares the need for informed viewers to watch any more of this myopic, one-sided propaganda.

Illegal Israeli Settlements: British Press vs American Media

quantumushroom says...

This isn't personal. In the marketplace of ideas, we are both selling and buying.

Have you thought this out thoroughly? What happens when/if "the Palestinians" get their "own" nation? It will end up another launchpad for rockets.

http://factsandlogic.org/ad_77.html

But how about the legal aspect of this matter? Isn’t the “West Bank” “occupied territory” and therefore the Jews have no right to be there? But the historic reality is quite different. Very briefly: The Ottoman Empire was the sovereign in the entire area. In 1917, while World War I was still raging, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration. It designated “Paleatine” — extending throughout what is now Israel (including the “West Band”) and what is now the Kingdom of Jordan — as the homeland for the Jewish people. In 1922, the League of Nations ratified the Balfour Declaration and designated Britain as the mandatory power. Regrettably, Britain, for its own imperial reasons and purposes, separated 76 percent of the land — that lying beyond the Jordan River — to create the kingdom of Trans-Jordan (now Jordan) and made it inaccessible to Jews. In 1947, tired of the constant bloodletting between Arabs and Jews, the British threw in the towel and abandoned the Mandate. The UN took over. It devised a plan by which the land west of the Jordan River would be split between the Jews and the Arabs. The Jews, though with heavy heart, accepted the plan. The Arabs virulently rejected it and invaded the nascent Jewish state with the armies of five countries, so as to destroy it at its birth. Miraculously, the Jews prevailed and the State of Israel was born. When the smoke of battle cleared, Jordan was in possession of the West Bank and Egypt in possession of Gaza. They were the “occupiers” and they proceeded to kill many Jews and to drive out the rest. They systematically destroyed all Jewish holy places and all vestiges of Jewish presence. The area was “judenrein.”

In the Six-Day War of 1967, the Jews reconquered the territories. The concept that Jewish presence in Judea/Samaria is illegal and that the Jews are occupiers is bizarre. It just has been repeated so often and with such vigor that many people have come to accept it.

How about the “Palestinians,” whose patrimony this territory supposedly is and about whose olive trees and orange groves we hear endlessly? There is no such people. They are Arabs — the same people as in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and beyond. Most of them migrated into the territories and to “Israel proper,” attracted by Jewish prosperity and industry.

The concept of “Palestinians” as applied to Arabs and as a distinct nationality urgently in need of their own twenty-third Arab state, is a fairly new one; it was not invented until after 1948, when the State of Israel was founded.

But here’s a thought: How about a deal by which the “settlements” were indeed abandoned and all the Jews were to move to “Israel proper.” At the same time, all the Arabs living in Israel would be transferred to Judea/Samaria or to wherever else they wanted to go. That would indeed make Judea/Samaria “judenrein,” and what are now Arab lands in Israel would be “arabrein.” The Arabs could then live in a fully autonomous area in eastern Israel and peace, one would hope, would descend on the holy land.

"Hindus and Buddhists aren't strapping on bombs."

If you knew anything about the race riots in India you would now about the appalling crimes committed by Hindu extremists against Muslims - I suggest you read Arundhati Roy's 'The Algebra of Infinite Justice' where you can read about Hindu gangs blowing up mosques and Muslim homes, burning Muslims alive and pregnant Muslim women having their stomachs slashed open and their unborn babies ripped out and thrown into fires.

>>>> It's true that Muslims don't hold the patent on barbarity. You can site Hindu extremism, but the flavor is a little different; they have their own caste system that pits one against the other in addition to anti-other-religions nuts. But despite their problems, India's loudest leading religious leaders aren't at war with the West and no American that recognizes Hindus fears them. Indian people have integrated well in American society.

"You are in the unenviable position of defending the indefensible."

Right back at you - I preach tolerance and understanding, you preach intolerance and hate. I have studied Islam and lived in the Islamic world - you've probably never been to university and don't even have a passport. You are not a monster - you're just plain ignorant.

>>>> I preach intolerance and hatred of the same fanatical side of Islam that you purport to abhor. I take it you're not an American (I am unsure of this) so the fury at watching American innocents die on 9-11 means something different to me than it does you.

>>>> On a personal level, I view the trappings of the Muslim faith as overly complicated and needlessly dogmatic.

>>>> Where we differ is, I see the rest of Islam as backwards. Not evil per se, but unfit and unworkable in its present state the 21st century. Muslims move into Western countries and refuse to assmilate. That's not immigration, that's invasion, and the politically-correct cowards who tolerate this will soon find themselves without a country, as is happening all over Europe.

>>> I invite you to read this essay by one Robert Locke, from 2002. I think you will find yourself agreeing with much of it. he highlights many of the same challenges you do.

http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=1237

>>> It's well established that the "Palestinian people" are a fiction that did not exist before 1947-8. The facts are plain about who these people were and are. You found a few Israeli apologists who disagree, but that doesn't change the reality. "Palestinians" are forever being used to threaten Israel, held up as eternal victims by the monarchs Israel's ongoing success has made fools out of for decades. Destroy Israel and give it to "Palestinians" tomorrow and they wouldn't know how to build a civilization.

>>> I am far from ignorant about what matters to me. Only the paranoid survive, and because the loudest mouthpieces of Islam are terrorists, and because the people who should be horrified by being represented by terrorists do little or nothing about it, they have been placed in the unenviable position of being forced to war against Western nations in a winner-take-all scenario.

>>> You wish to be a Gandhi for Islam and that is commendable. I maintain that the first people who would love to silence you are the Islamofascists, not Westerners, and certainly not me. A few million more like-minded gwaans might yield an Islamic country ready for the future. Good luck.
