Yes, have heard of him. I would need to go and re-listen to see if it's coincidence that I've upvoted all the ones without him and none of the ones with him I think it might be...

As for adding Lisa Hannigan... I didn't really think I needed to! I spent a bit of time doing a playlist though. A few non-folk ones may have crept in along with the borderline ones. Feedback welcome.

Have you guys ever heard of Damien Rice, btw? Lisa Hannigan & him used to be a thing. She features a fair bit on his gorgeous gorgeous album "O".>> ^lampishthing:

And, cough , Lisa Hannigan...>> ^oritteropo:
I feel somewhat underprepared! Since all my favourite performers have at least one vid here on vs already, perhaps a eurofolk playlist is in order? I've been following Le Cargo, since every google search of bands I liked ended up there, and posting my favourite ones here.
For a non-exhaustive list to start, I would recommend these English bands:

  • This is the kit
  • Merz
  • I am Kloot

And these from the rest of Europe
  • The Swell Season
  • Melpo Mene
  • Alela Diane

I welcome any other suggestions, too

Could I request a European folk listening list from you in this thread, oritteropo?
You find some nice stuff.

It actually didn't disappear from the listing. It's currently on page 4.

Hey, just wondering... So I have this video that made 10 votes sometime this weekend. Then it appeared n the front page. Then ant, the dastard, downvoted it as he is wont to do. I don't remember what my points were... Do I still have the point for the video? Just curious, like, site mechanics-wise.

Upvote granted. That is probably the best way to reply to that sort of argument too.

The real underlying problem with the "gas prices are going up because the Fed is printing money" theory is that gasoline is just one price, and "inflation" is a rise in the price of everything, overall. Economists say that to really spot inflation, you have to look at prices that are generally pretty stable; volatile commodities like food & gas which see frequent large shifts in both supply & demand are very poor measures of inflation, because there's just too much non-inflationary noise. Here's a much more in-depth explanation from Krugman: http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/26/core-logic/

Keep in mind that the methods economists use to measure inflation show that we've been in a period of record-low inflation. That should, for any rational person, be the end of talk of inflation. This constant cry of "INFLATION!" at every price increase is quite literally the economic equivalent of hearing hoof-beats and assuming it's zebras and not horses.

Most changes in prices happen in response to real shifts in supply or demand, not because the Fed is expanding the monetary base.
