I'm not sure that he's really saying that it is the SAME. Just that the effect is the same for them personally.

In any case, honestly, forseeing the internet is the best part of this, except for the quote "There is no truth, only emptiness" which I looped and used as a hypnotic mantra in a techno song once.

I've actually used samples from this 5 minute clip in three or four different tracks. I'm thinking about using the video to make a video for one that I called Balanced Anarchy.

So do you think you'll sift this..?

oh my, he's describing the internet in 1978. Or, at least what people thought it would be like back then. I like these connections 1 series videos much better than the later series 2 and 3 versions. Surprisingly though, I do disagree with his premise in the first part of the clip, where he equates non-scientific views of the universe with scientific ones because 'they both give us certainty'. I think science gives us more than that, something that no other subjective view reality can give; an objective testable and verifiable view of reality. A billion monks meditating on a million mountaintops for a thousand years will never arrive at the realization of how to create microcircutry and instantaneous internationally packet switched telecommunications networks that connect it all. But it looks like science arrives at this result, almost inevitably, after just a couple hundred years.

Oh yes, I have a present for you as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB8_wPei2ZM

I am not eligible to sift it, since I'm the uploader, so it's all yours.

Cheers!

I had the exact same experience with Burke's Connections on tlc during the same period in my life too. The man is a friggin god as far as I'm concerned.
