I've never seen Paul or Schiff talk about the inherent deflationary nature of information technologies in the context of Austrian Economics, despite their constant talk of inflation. The price of a given amount of processing power or data storage drops by a fairly consistent percent per year (on average)... the same is true for dna sequencing, solar power, or many other high-tech devices.

Maybe they don't think it's a big deal, but I've never even seen them mention it. Austrian Economics were formulated well before the information age, so I'm curious how these new trends fit into it.

This may help.

tl;dr Increases in efficiency and productivity outweigh increase in money supply. If that can be believed!

I am a minarchist, so I do believe in a government, albeit a small, limited one. I know a lot of anarcho-capitalists who believe there should be no government and instead our country should be run by the free market (not to be read as run by corporations - free market is a simple principle of a mutually beneficial contract between two parties without coercion).

I, however, see a necessary evil in government, but it needs to be much, much smaller and much, much more limited. As Thomas Paine said, "That government is best which governs least."

I do see the role of government being infrastructure and law, as if to say roads and courts, essentially, which should be paid for by way of voluntary fees (gasoline tax, court fees, etc). I do NOT think it's the government's right to meddle in education or prohibitions or licensing or banking.

The question is, do you?

I posted a reply in the thread, though it's nothing overly significant.

On a slightly related topic, I'm curious what your opinion is on the role of government. Should there be one at all? If there is one, should taxation be strictly voluntary?

I'm mainly asking in an attempt gain more perspective on various issues. I prefer a thorough understanding of opposing viewpoints. Besides, maybe it will give me a good reason to blindly hate you. =P

Just a few points...

Saying that the guy is an ass and should have chosen another method of protest is not the same as saying that it should be illegal for him to protest. He's "free" to be an ass, and others are "free" to point out how counterproductive it is.

Freedom of assembly does not include freedom to obstruct government business. They are within their rights to ask him to leave the building... he can go outside and protest all he wants.

Pestering the clerks is pointless. It's like bitching at an army private about the invasion of Iraq, or a Wal-Mart stocker about the price of an item.

As far as the military, soldiers are only required to follow "legal" orders. If a person's commander orders them to do something illegal then the person is not required to do it. However, that doesn't mean that the soldier has any control over which legal orders are issued.

well said,
there were a few others that pointed that out far better than i did.
but hey..
if i wasnt being just one big run-on sentence, then i wouldnt be me =)

Don't confuse the guest with the network that is interviewing him. Cente is talking about economic policies... it's Fox that is placing the blame on Obama, ignoring the fact that Celente criticizes Bush for doing the same thing.

The issue that he is talking about is the crash of the dollar. If China and others decide to sell of their dollar assets then there isn't a damn thing the US can do to keep the dollar from dropping like a rock.

The problem is that our excessive spending is making that even more likely. The stimulus and bank bailouts could work perfectly, but if it scares our large investors away from our currency then it won't matter. If the dollar does collapse then you will likely see the things he is predicting. Printing money to pay the bills is not sustainable.

This guy isn't saying "republicans are right" or democrats are evil", he's saying that specific economic policies are very dangerous and should be avoided. Celente's predictions may be avoided, but he isn't someone who goes around blindly criticizing Obama just for the sake of partisanship (or if he does, it isn't in this video).

If he is not blaming Obama, why does he refer to his predictions as "Obamageddon" ?

>> 1. ... answer deathcow's question "how does he get annoyed 2 seconds after the guy sets the camera down?"

There were several 5 second-ish pauses throughout the rant. It isn't unreasonable to think he walked in during a pause rather than at the very beginning. Is the mom in on the faking as well?

>> 2. Explain why the SPONSORS of this video don't want this on youtube.

I haven't seen that statement, but I doubt it means sponsors like "people who pay you to represent a product". It could mean parents or guardians... I have no idea though. It just seems that if it was meant to be faked then they could have easily written something "believable". The specific wording of that comment doesn't really support either stance on the video... it's just an odd comment.

If I found out one of my (hypothetical) kids was posting stuff like that about their brother/sister then I'd sure as hell have it taken down immediately.

>> 3. Answer Sandman's question: why take a video of the video? / Explain why this is a video of a youtube video.

According to the description the original youtube video was recorded by someone else and was reposted when the original was taken down shortly thereafter. I don't know why someone would use that method, but not everyone knows how to download youtube videos as a video file.

It may be fake, but if it is then that is some amazing acting and composure. What is more likely, a kid having severe emotional problems, or two brothers and an older lady faking multiple videos flawlessly without ever once breaking character?

For anyone who is convinced this is fake (or real for that matter):

Wow you sure are funny and edgy edgeman about someone dying.

Yes, since numerous people die every day, it is our duty to be depressed and/or angry 24/7. That's why when I see anyone smiling I punch them in the face and say "someone just died you insensitive bastard".

One day I'll die too, and I'd hate to think that people will be nothing but serious about it.

they sell the edited versions of all three seasons, but it is diminished due to editing..in my opinion anyways.
