Thanks people. I get it now.

Glad it is different from youtube! I'll look around this site and hopefully get the hang of it.

I feel a bit silly now for wanting to post my own work, but I enjoy looking at the great videos that are sifted.

Thanks for patience!

Nope, you can't submit it here if you've made it or the embed is from your own personal account from YouTube etc..

Just find a video that is good, share it, and wait for the votes. After you've made a friend or two around here you could ask him/her to sift your own video for you.

I have a cat, Matilda, and she has a pet mouse, Dot.
I'm totally new to this site, and I think I must be feeble minded because I can't work it out...
Can I post a video I have made? or is that self promoting... It is a video of my cat and mouse.
Can I embed from a youtube link, or should I convert the vid to flash and upload it to my computer.

This look like a great site... Hmmm, now if only I could get the hang of it!!!

M&D...

For clarification, here are the definintions of "self linking" here on the Sift from the FAQ...

* The video is associated with your account on the video host (i.e., you uploaded it to YouTube, Google Video, etc.).
* You played any role, no matter how large or small, in any aspect of the production of the video.
* You are in any way responsible for or involved in marketing, promoting, or any other manner of proliferating the video.
* You could receive any form of compensation (monetary or otherwise) as a result of the submission or subsequent views.
* You are somehow represented in the content of the video whether photographically, artistically, audibly, or metaphorically.

There are lots of talented video makers on this site, but they don't post their own work here, sure they'd like to, and if you do they will come down on you like a ton o' bricks. It is one of the key differences between The Sift and YouTube. That and the more or less respectful and intelligent commentary.

If you choose to join, you can always elect to purchase a Charter membership, which will provide you with a blog space to post your own work, in addition to a few other benifits.

Welcome, and have fun. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
