XCOM Trailer E3 2010

From Youtube:
"Check out the new trailer for this thrilling new XCOM trailer, set in the 50s!"

As a fan of the original Xcom/Ufo games I am sceptical to the change to an FPS but the previews and this trailer makes me have some hope for this title.

I have never been able to get into X-com apocalypse myself. I own it but i just can't be bothered to play it when I have Xcom 1 & 2 to play instead.

Feels sorta more like X-com apocalypse to me (which was shit). Still, looks interesting.
>> ^darkrowan:
I like how this works, but I refuse to consider this part of XCOM canon.

I played UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka X-com UFO defense) all the way through when I was little. Which was awesome, but when I got to terror from the deep, it was basically just more of the same with a new skin. I was a little meh about that.
Apocalypse made a lot of things different, but most of the changes were forthe worse - the aliens were now dimensional shifters and was a lot less cool, and they introduced real-time fights which were poor, I think.

I bought the whole X-com package on steam last year and I've been wanting to do a remake of the first one since forever (along with another Warhammer: Dark Omen and Fragile Allegience). Hell, that's why I develop video games!

You sir have an impeccable taste in games.

I got the package on steam too although I must say that I prefer Terror from the deep as you don't have the laser rifle in it (And it was the first X-com I played on the Amiga). Also fighting underwater is cooler than fighting on land. - Fact -

Apoc was great. The real time wasn't well implemented, but watching a facesucker jump on your men or a popper decimate your squad in turn base mode was every bit as intense as fighting chryssalids and ethereals. Of course the intensity suffers later on once you get better armor and personal shields, but so did the original X-COM once you can just blasterbomb and mind control the shit of the aliens. Apoc was a great game in its own right, just different than the original.

Now this abomination called XCOM has barely anything to do with the original. At least Fallout 3 used the iconic post-apocalyptic setting filled with pipboy and supermutants. This XCOM could might as well be a videogame adaptation of Men in Black or Mars Attacks.

this looks really crappy to me

Why?

Just looks like a really generic shooter with random stuff hashed into it. the art style dose not seem very cohesive to me ether.

I Think an ideal clean 1950s look could be really good for a game setting as well for a shooter i think it is yet to be done realy well , fallout 3 and boishock both seemd quite naff to me , well into of bioshock one before the main game play kicked in was realy good and spot on but as soon as the actual game play started it was pritty rubish.

if you compare games like this to games like shadow of the colossus , portal then its just inbarrsing.
Its all down to how serouse the game takes itself , if the game is realy light harted and internaly aware that its a game and the core mechanics are fun then thats fine , you cannot make that sort of a jugment from video alone though.
