Dambisa Moyo discusses her book Dead Aid: Why Aid Is Not Working and How There Is a Better Way for Africa.

Long story short: Bono is not helping.

I'm sure the apologetic statists will disagree with her.

More than that. She says late in the interview that they are actively trying to discredit her by lobbying with African leaders and telephoning ahead of appearances.

The piece of mind that many westerners seek in 'helping Africans' is keeping Africa down. Ironic and sad.

It's a selfish world out there.

The west F-ed up Africa real bad in the past, and to make up for it they are providing aid (however meager it may be) in the present.

But should it be responsible for its 'future' as well?

That's a different question.

What I love about this sift is leftists can't readily call Ms. Moyo a "monster" for telling the truth.

The 7 trillion dollars America has wasted since the 60s (and continues to) on a failed "War on Poverty" has the same effect here.

That's true, but people don't seem to realize how much of the wealth variance of different regions is due to the kind of geographic determinism discussed in Guns, Germs, and Steel. The Sahara was a civilizational bottleneck.
