Yogisays...The middle east should be a completely nuclear weapons free zone. That means Israel doesn't get them either. That is what the majority of Americans want that is what the overwhelming majority of the world wants, that isn't what the government of the United States is ever going to allow. Democracy....fuck it.

Because the idea of the UN was the use the might of first world nations to subvert the sovereignty of entire regions. Like the Democracy in the playground of my youth.

Not sure what you're saying there. Is that sarcasm or do you think nuclear weapons are a good idea?
GeeSussFreeKsays...Denying regions access to technology is only sweeping under the carpet the real problem. The real problem is how do we handle having freedom and the ability to all eradicate humanity in an instant. You may be successful in denying WMDs to that region today, but technology will just make even deadlier weapons cheaper and smaller over the course of time. The real issue is how to handle that problem and not live in an utterly totalitarian world. In other words, nukes exist, we have to get used to a world were everyone and their neighbor has them. Denying entire nations access to them might only breed discontent to the degree than when they get them they feel like they have something to prove, which is almost worse. The problem doesn't end with getting them mind you, but denying access only seems like fostering an even larger problem down the road...not to mention brutally oppressive.
