Obama: "The War on Drugs Has Been An Utter Failure"

While not advocating legalization, Obama demonstrates at least a bit of sense with respect to this issue.

Finally. I was wondering if we were EVER going to see a US president acknowledge what has been pathetically obvious for the past nearly 40 years...

Yeah, because selling the idea by degrees to get certain power broking hold outs in your society to come around is less effective than ramming it down their throat.

There are limits to what even the US President can accomplish. At least he's looking at new ways to do things.

Yes, it is less effective to legalize things by half-measures, if the effect you're going for is actual freedom sooner than later. Start the argument where it starts. There is no reason for marijuana to be illegal. Using medical marijuana to get the legal bolts loosened just doesn't sit right with me. I wish people would be more fucking direct!

^yup, you are never going to have freedom if you don't start the argument in the right place.

the right place to start is that a ban on marijuana is an insult to freedom. all this pussy-footing about medical marijuana, decriminalization, and taxation is just ridiculous.
