Memoirs of a Geisha - Snow Dance

daphnesays...

I never saw the film. The book was so lovely that I didn't want to ruin the images it painted. But seriously...if that dance is authentic then I'm Paris Hilton's left bra cup.

Isn't there an authentic Geisha dance in the sift somewhere? It's so graceful and understated...not like this at all. At one point I thought this clip got mixed up with a scene from "The Ring."

This movie was travesty. Seriously, in terms of imagery and art style it was really astounding. However the whole film was brought down by the acting and the cast. You had a chinese actress, who had just recently learned english playing the lead role. She is a good actress, that can be seen in her native language features. But here, her english is just not emotive enough and it feels like it was read out.

This should have been filmed with a all japanese cast, with native japanese subtitled. Not only would have added to the story, characters and the mystique.

On the bonusmaterial on the dvd, they claim that they had an audition for japanese actors first. but no-one wanted to be in the film.

fwiw, i think this movie has one of the best scores that john williams have ever written.
