The iconic 'love and hate' scene in Spike Lee's 'Do the Right Thing" is an homage to an earlier film, 'The Night Of The Hunter'.

lest any be deceived, the guy in the 2nd clip was Robert Mitchum, not Charles Laughton. Laughton was the director.

Night of the Hunter is a pretty gothic flick.

watched Night of the Hunter with my wife last year or so... I thought it was alright at best.

however we probably got like 20 minutes of enjoyment from rewinding and watching Pearl say "tell me a story, John". for some reason, it sounds hilarious to us.
