Judas Priest Subliminal Messages Suicide Trial

90s documentary covering a civil action in which it was alleged that hidden backwards messages in Judas Priest songs, particularly 'Better By You, Better Than Me', were responsible for the suicide and attempted suicide of Ray Belknap and James Vance.

Rob Halford famously demonstrated for the court the true origin of these messages, suggestion and faulty pattern recognition, by playing the song 'Exciter' backwards to reveal the message "I asked for a peppermint; I asked for her to get one."

This is so horrifying, how they can blame their sons suicides on music in general and that band in particular. Can you imagine how the members of Judas Priests felt when being accused by these crazy idiots?

It never ceases to amaze me that people with look to the easiest scapegoat for the answer to their problems. Sure listening to heavy metal is what caused the son's suicide. It could never be the years of systematic abuse caused by alcoholism, domestic violence, a forced Christian upbringing, uncaring parents, etc, etc.

There are certain songs that were written to have these messages.. but not these suicidal messages.

Pink Floyd songs, Eminem(hi my name is), Gorillaz Song (white Light) - cant prove it, but I would expect it with the bands back story(Murdoc is a satanist).

There are many songs that have these things, but the listener still has to figure out the message, so the message is relative, and subjective to the listener.

Did any one notice the insult that Halford gave? We like to think that we are little more intellectual than that.

Very articulated put.

There is no easy way to commit suicide. In death we have to think of the brain and conscious that they are separate. What your conscious is thinking about, and what the brain is actually dealing with can be two different things. To take it a step further there the brain controls, and we aren't necessarily in control, however we know that they work together, and the conscious is a construct of the brain.

There is no way to die ... that is not going be painless, or easy.

IN short... don't do it, because not only will it hurt, but you could fuck it up.

Religion does not have anything to do with suicidal tendencies, it is a construct of nature in its attempt to control an ecosystem. However the raising and environment that a person is in can enable this construct.

Live each moment like it is the last.

I've listened to JP all my life and have owned every album at least once. Great music - and "never once felt suicidal".

These people are messed up and can't even begin to see it!
