The Chris Bliss Diss...by Jason Garfield

The following is cut and pasted from Wikipedia...

In 2006 Bliss enjoyed widespread fame when an online video of his juggling finale became a viral internet sensation. The five minute video shows his energetic finale where he juggles 3 balls to Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End by The Beatles. The video was widely circulated via email and blogs with an estimated 20 million viewings within 40 days [2].

The video caused quite a stir in the juggling world, with Bliss appearing as a guest on Penn Jillette's radio show [3], Penn was himself a juggler and is associated with the World Juggling Federation. Many jugglers were surprised and confused by the success that Bliss had found with such a simple juggling routine. In response to this, Jason Garfield, a highly accomplished technical juggler, recorded a self-described "parody" video of Bliss' finale using much more technical tricks with 5 balls. In reality, this video is simply a more technically demanding performance set to the same music, with nothing else in common with Bliss' performance. This video also went viral, further boosting the fame of the original.

I think critics missed the appeal of Bliss's performance (the original). It isn't the technique or level of difficulty that impresses, it's that it's beautifully choreographed to the music. The balls appear to be almost dancing. Garfield's performance, while more difficult from a technical perspective, doesn't fit the music nearly as well.

While I don't doubt the insane talent of Jason Garfield, I, like catsaway, think Bliss' performace "flows" a little better. Plus, an empty gymnasium doesn't really have the same appeal, I'm curious to see if Jason does this in front of a live audience (I'm sure he can!)

Yeah I sort of agree...

My point is simply that Bliss is not this amazing master juggler. At best he is a good juggler, with a great idea.

I do think he could do some really cool visual effects, or even write a program to play the music with his juggling. It could be so cool.

This is definitely a great exhibition of his skill, but I prefer the Bliss performance more. Just more entertaining to me. I guess I don't need to be blown away by the difficulty to enjoy something like this, and I don't think the whole gist of the Bliss performance was to astound the audience with god-like skill. Anyway, juggling is just part (albeit, a large part) of Bliss's act. He also does stand-up comedy. If other jugglers are jealous of his success, then maybe they should catch his show and try to learn why it's so popular instead of moaning about his juggling ability.
