TimothyChenAllensays...What a beautiful song-- I play that just about every time I pick up the guitar.
Here's the story as I understand it: James Taylor checked into a mental institution with his heroin troubles. While there he met a girl with the same problem. She was released at the end of her treatment, whereupon she relapsed and died. The reference to Flying Machines in pieces on the ground is his band, The Original Flying Machine, that went under when James checked into the institute.
Is that accurate? Does anyone know anything different/more complete? Thanks.

I play a lot of JT, but I have a "no Fire and Rain" rule, similar to the "No Stairway" in Wayne's World. It is a beautiful song, but done to death by hack artists like myself.
