Football-Helmets and pads are for pussies... =)

The next time your dressing up in armour and worrying about getting sacked, consider taking some of these hits sans head/neck protection and shoulderpads.

Oh, and in Rugby (league or union), "blocking" is an illegal tactic known as sheparding. If you have the ball, your team can't stop the other team from soundly molesting you if they can catch you... =)

A lot of these guys don't seem nearly as buff as football players, plus those shorts are gay.

Heh, you should see "Aussie Rules" (Australian Football), the shorts get shorter.

In rugby, there is only one team (so no offense/defense/special/kicking teams) so the players have to cross train more. The backs and wings are the faster players, then you have front/second rows which are the big guys.

Pity I only have one slot atm or I'd toss up this one.

Aussie rules this is. Basic rules, kick the ball to the other players, if you catch on the full (a mark) you get a free kick forward. Sometimes called "aerial ping pong". First half of the clip are marks, second half are hits. ; )

I wonder what the average career length of a professional rugby player is...you know, before they suffer so many injuries they can't play any more. There's a reason they use pads in football, and it's not because they're pussies.

My dad has a British friend who sent us some vids of his local Rugby league team, the St. Helen's Saints. A couple years ago, they had the prototypical storybook season, going through the season just a couple games shy of perfect.

I prefer watching league games to union games - some union games start out with kicks back and forth to the backs, waiting for the other team to mishandle or make a mistake. League is a lot more flowing, and removes side-line throw-ins, as well as a lot of the situations where scrums occur.

You could also argue that league is less flowing due to the fact you have to reposition after every tackle. And there's nothing more frustrating than arriving right near the try line with no tackles remaining.

I love this sport, league is fun to play sometimes, though all in all I still prefer rugby union. Can't stand afl though, sorry Asmo, I guess I'm just a bad kicker.

Heheh, never played it mate and while league shorts are a bit revealing, AFL shorts are criminal. I just put it in there for a laugh... =)

ps. WOOT, finally got rid of the probie P...
