jonk614says...That was no doubt impressive, but would someone mind explaining to me why on the last set he didn't go for the 20s? I know nothing of darts clearly, and I was just curious.
cybrbeastsays...In darts you have to work down from 501 to 0 points. Your last dart has to be in a double (outer ring). So after 2x 180 there was a 141 left. Triple 17, plus triple 18, plus double 18 is 141.
Awesome performance.
obscenesimiansays...I think it's sad that the #1 video in the Sports Sift is about darts. Whats next, the world series of poker?
TimothyChenAllensays...Let me preface this by saying I loved this clip: a fantastic game.
That said, I had a football coach who restricted "sports" to those gaming activities that prepared you for war. This put *in* track, football, and wrestling, and left *out* games such as golf and darts. Baseball was on the fence. Golf most definitely is not a sport, no matter what criteria you are using (hey, I'm a solopsist, but that's just one man's opinion).
Maybe Coach was a troglodite, but I still use his criteria to call something a "sport".
Deanosays...I have to defend darts. Darts is brilliant. The drama, intensity and skill is absolutely compelling. I only have to point out the recent world darts final that had me absolutely hooked and went all the way to the final set.
If sport is about providing a worthy spectacle while dealing with pressure then darts doesn't have anything to be apologetic about.
jimnmssays...I've always though of "sports" as any competition event involving teams. Golf is definitely not a sport, it's a game.
If you're coaches definition of a sport is something that prepares you for war, then by that definition I'd say darts is a sport, you can put someone's eye out with one of those things.
TimothyChenAllensays..."Point" well taken, jimnms (hoo hoo heee heeee HA HAAH HAHA (at this point the pun police cart me away for my strait jacket and padded cell))
I agree-- that guy pulled off an amazing feat under extreme pressure.
loorissays...well *I*, at the moment, think that sports must involve some body activity much greater than throwing a dart.
so, I consider darts more as a "game".
but, hey, I *LOVE* games!
this video is awesome, ok, but with that said, I do not love darts. I can't stand the senseless organization of the target.
i think a small error should bring to a smaller result, and a big error should bring to much worse results. This does not happen with darts: you can miss your target by a small inch and get much less point than you could possibly get by throwing the dart at random and hitting something good.
nonsense.
optik678says...IMO, the only difference between a game and sport is whether or not you get paid for it.
nazdoroviasays...Who cares if it's a sport? It's awesome. If someone subs a really well played, entertaining card game, I'll upvote that too.
oh, wait. you guys are talking about whether it belongs in the collective...
well...if I wanted to find this video again, I'd look in the sports collective for it. I'd say it's a sport until there's a games collective.
Deanosays...*skillful
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Skillful) - requested by Deano.
