Whoa, watch your language there, sailor! While I admire your thoughtful and intelligent critique, calling it BS isn't all that constructive.
I'm curious to know who specifically raped you (so as not to trivialize your serious allegations).

billpayersaid:

Elysium has it's problems, but this right wing economic diatribe is BULLSHIT.
YES we have all been fucked by a small percentage of wealthy fucks.

Apparently sound economics is right-wing bullshit. Of course, none of the leftist statist will answer the question why the robots couldn't do the dangerous jobs instead of the people, nor why the healthcare tanning beds couldn't, or wouldn't, be mass-produced for wider consumption like most technological advancements. No, they'd much rather shit on everything and tell you what an idiot you are because you hate the poor and the roads and firemen. Simplistic fuckers.

So in a movie where they have shuttles the size of mini-buses that can achieve orbit, his problem is the economics?

Fuck actual physics, an arbitrary human convention that describes the behaviour of other humans is depicted in a manner that is kinda implausible! Oh teh noes!

The subject of innovation vs jobs is an interesting one, but poorly addressed in this video.

Here's a much better take on it

so you have this uber wealthy society that has perfected medical science to the point that every household in Elysium has one of those medical tables.

so what was the purpose of those fleets of medical ships filled to the brim with med robots and med bays. since every home in Elysium having a med bay, those fleets would have been collecting dust

They could have helped earth with, quite literally, with the press of a button or a voice command

but they didn't

so their economic system is very much irrelevant. They were simply assholes to withhold medical help when it would have been no skin off their back
