Crazy racist black guy at Seattle School Board meeting

Crazy racist black guy decides to rant at Seattle School Board meeting. I couldn't edit the video, so please stop playing after the guy finally steps away from the podium (around 2 min).

This guy needs to be sprayed with a fire-hose.

(Note: For ercel, Bambrew and anyone else who doesn't understand irony, let me translate my comment: 'Perhaps this gentleman would better understand the racism he spouts if he were to experience it himself')

Sorry if I offended.

I like the fact that in an attempt to shame this man for being "racist", Dystopianfuturetoday suggests he should be sprayed with a fire-hose. If thats not the most ignorant racist this to say, I'm not sure what is?
This is why racism STILL is alive right now in 2008. Folks like Dystopianfuturetoday amaze me. You can hide behind a screen name online and say what you feel because you are protected and safe. If thats not the weakest way to express yourself I don't know what it. How are you, myself or anyone for that matter going to began to help heal the issues of racism when there are comments like that reflecting how something thinks, being posted?? However, with a statement like that, I am sure Dystopianfuturetoday does not want racism to change. I guess you are new generation Klan... traded in your sheets for a wonderful avitar. Or maybe its just laundry day. Happy MLK Day!

Racism? Was it just the 'go back to India' comment? I couldn't turn it up to make sense of the other crap he was saying... something about schools closing...

@ ercell22, dystopian's comment was rude and crude, and without elaboration he makes a fool of himself by it. The man in the clip makes a fool of himself in exactly the same way. It doesn't mean we should push them away, they should be engaged in discussion on the issue. Its not helping 'heal racism' if you declare someone a Klan member and shun them for saying something foolish. For all we know he could have meant that if this man had participated actively in the civil rights movement maybe he'd have more respect for other people of color.

I'm sorry anyone missed my meaning. I figured that using an archaic form of oppression as an example would make it clear that my comment was not to be taken literally. When was the last time you've heard of anyone getting sprayed by a fire hose?

I absolutely agree that racism is a huge problem, and it's frustrating to see a member of one of the most oppressed minority groups pick on a similarly oppressed group. Where is the empathy? It's just disheartening. This guy allows non-blacks to say "See, they're racist too!" in order to justify their own prejudice.

I think the racism that is the biggest threat (as I've spoke about at great length on this site) is the internalized racism, the type of racism we don't see in ourselves, that later generations will see more clearly.

Anyway, I happy to discuss this with anyone. No harm intended.

I did NOT mean to upvote your comment, ercell, and you COMPLETELY misunderstood DFT's comment, FYI, which is sort of understandable, although your reaction was a bit too much personally attacking him. Seems a bit prejudiced to make that sort of a sweeping judgement of someone you don't really know. If only you knew how dead wrong you were, and what is the deal with bringing up KLAN comparisons? Ridiculous. Let me say this. That man up there on the podium was spewing ugliness and hatred about people of Asian descent, and I AM of asian descent, so I believe DFT was reacting in anger on my behalf because it was a bit upsetting to me.

ercell22 is mostly right. And we can see how organic racism is if we look at dyst's comment and response: dyst just bounced it right back, just like that, without even realizing it.

But that's the real core of racism, it's not necessarily deliberate or chosen, it's also unconscious reaction. And when we are confronted with our own error, we have all sorts of excuses for why our "I" would never do what our self just did.

So I think in the end, the right thing to do is say, "Hey dystopian, whether you can handle it or not, that was racist. Please be more self-aware." Because when you condemn and name-call, then dyst can't handle the truth; and no one else can stand the possibility either, and everyone shrugs it off.

The idiot in the video perceived humans on an axis of race. So dyst did too. That's the problem folks. That is the essence of the evil we face.

Let it go, qbert. DFT apologized. He's NOT a racist, though if you didn't know him I could see how his statement could easily be mistaken as racist in intent. He misspoke, he corrected himself, he apologized TWICE. What more do you want from him? A written apology three times a day, every day, for the rest of his life? A pound of flesh? Shit, if we can't learn to forgive then racism will be with us forever.
