Can Anyone Really Get Into Heaven?

This video is from the people who bring you WhyWontGodHealAmputees.com and uses the 8 steps Jesus speaks of in the New Testament which will guarantee someone's eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

A quite interesting clip of information from the Bible, and I'm sure there's a few things that can be debated from the point of view of "True Believers".

YouTube Desc: "By watching this short video, you will be able to prove to yourself that nobody can get into heaven. To prove it, all we have to do is read what Jesus said in the Bible."

I stopped after step 2. "Sell everything" is not what Jesus meant. Jesus knew that the person he was talking to was rich (read the next few versus). Jesus knew that this person loved his money more than God. His money is an idol to him. Jesus knew the person's heart and was trying to make a point.

Of course if you take things out of context one can arrive to 8 steps. There are only 2: 1) ask for forgiveness of your sin, 2) Trust in Jesus as the only way to be forgiven of this sin. If you take all of what Jesus and His apostles in context then the this is the one and only way to get to Heaven.

yes. although i am not a christian, i agree with maximillian. this video is bunk.

i just will say this. there is no human argument that will convince one side or the other (of any argument, really) of its representing pure Truth. Because humanity can rarely recognize pure Truth, and when it does, humanity can barely comprehend it and communicate it to others. instead, we try to play tricks of logic, and cover up our weaknesses. if anyone had found a logical argument of pure grace and infallibility, there would be no argument, because such purity would draw strength. as of now, there is no center to our civilization that holds any such strength.

OK, simple counter arguement to the entire video.
how do you win at tic tac toe?
make a line of 3 diagonally
make a line of 3 horizontally
make a line of 3 vertically
make a triangle with 3 Xs or Os

given at any one time all of those answers are valid in their own way now if i take the jump the video does now to win at tic tac toe i need to make a line that is somehow vertical horizontal and diagonal as well as being a triangle
well now tic tac toe seems to be an absurd game that can never be won no matter the circumstance.

Is this a serious example? Your victory conditions have ORs in between them as opposed to the ANDs represented in this video. Sure, some of the things in here are taken out of context, but let's just focus on two of them, hm?

1. Love everyone.
2. Hate everyone.

Those seem rather clear -- any takers?

Wyndersays...

Devout agnostic here, and it's my believe that this video belongs in the toilet -- from my half-paying attention viewing, I did happen to catch that, in one reading, the passage said something to the effect of, "Do this and only then will you be my disciple."

Now, being a disciple and being granted entrance into heaven are two completely different things. If the man is trying to distort the meaning of plainly written text that he puts right in front of my face, the video as a whole has no credibility to me.

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

Firstly, he's not talking here about going to heaven. Secondly, the guy left off the last sentence which puts it into a bit of context:

"And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple."

He's talking about people coming to him, to worship him believing that they are not in need of guidance or help. The passage is saying that you cannot be a disciple of god if you are not willing to admit your fallacies and your hatreds -- if you cannot bear your soul and put your heart and mind forth with the understanding that, as much as you strive to live your life as god intends that you still sin, you'll never truly understand Jesus.

Again, I'm agnostic and haven't been to a church service in close to a decade and, with a little research, even *I* can interpret this after realizing that the video poster is omitting text to twist it into his own meaning.

He has zero credibility of any kind after that.

As an atheist, i support the overall messgae. That ebing said this guy is a jackass. If I have to hear the phrase "any intelligent person" one more time I may go crazy. Saying that just turns off a bunch of your audience that you would have retained, it belittles when atheists by and large need to improve our image.

I like the overall message as well, but I don't think it's very well done. In fact it's decidedly faux newsed.

Why are there exactly 8 things? Is this just arbitrarily chosen from the Bible?

Whitesays...

he twists the ENTIRE, repeat, ENTIRE segment on the flesh and blood of Jesus. he uses holy communion to compare Christianity to a "bizarre satanic cult" off of an assumption he made. he said it METAPHORICALLY SOUNDS LIKE a "bizarre satanic cult" and bases his whole argument off of that.

upvote for finally finding a religion video that Religious, Atheists, and Agnostics can all agree sucks.

Damned Jews.

It only begs the question, "Why did Jesus feel it necessary to speak in parables to everyone he met?" Why couldn't the perfect Son of God speak with clarity and understanding, explaining in simple terms, how to live your life and get to heaven? It seems so far-fetched to take parables from 2000 years ago and market them today. Maybe these stories were acceptable in his time, when science and logic were dormant, but today we need more than that.

I agree that the video is pretty much off-course, but it's as off-course as the Bible, so I'll just ignore both of them.

If you must confess your sins and accept Jesus as your Savior, is Jesus going to hell? He can surely accept himself as Savior, but he can't confess his sins (since he has none.)

Jesus is in hell with all of the people of earth who lived before he was 30. What a weird place that must be.

MaxWildersays...

^That was a really dumb statement, "thinker". If Jesus is God, he doesn't need to exactly follow the rules for mere mortals.

Anyway, this video is crap. This is somebody who doesn't believe and has no interest in considering the arguments of those who do. If you are going to even have a chance in changing somebody's opinion, you must address their interpretations. The part about the sacrament is the most obvious here.

I'd like to see somebody with a little more depth of research do a video like this. Here we have a pre-made straw-man for the religious to knock over.

Crunchysays...

This video is looking like the atempts of busting evolution by christians, a bit pathetic especially in the evolution videos but i can see where your coming from so its all cool, however there are still easier ways to debunk the bible with common sence for instance.
