If he prays harder, he can magically create a Jesus powered force field to repel all infidels and their evil implements.

If the supposed earthly mouth of god can't keep his ass safe, and if god itself won't protect his ass. Then what the f are we to expect from god in day to day life. If god can't protect his ambassador's ass, it sure as hell won't listen to your whiny assed mundane complaints.

I always thought that if the Pope is supposed to be God's earthly emissary, that I don't know, GOD WOULD PROTECT HIM FROM HARM.

Though I'm sure there's plenty of apologists out there who say that that's what God has done by allowing the construction of bullet-proof windows.

Well, as an atheist I feel if you are going to criticize religion you have to do better than that. According to them god gave man free will and god does not prevent the evils of man. Religions do like their martyrs.
