Atheist Comedy - The Meaning of Life

Religious people describe what they believe to be the meaning of our lives: to honor an egomaniac who created us just to thank, praise, and love Him - or else?!

Yes, God wants its subjects to prey, it is like meditation, supposedly subjects will relax n live better! God doesn't want subjects praying to other things, because subjects could get strayed toward the "wrong" things, so they got to stay away from praying to those other things.

I like the argument on free will, I have used the same one in the past, but the bit about praying, is not researched well, at least it doesn't debunk the above point.

I think the argument is that "praying is good for the subjects themselves" not that God needs the prayers.

So god wants us to pray to him because it's good for us? He seems to get pretty mad when we pray to other things.

Meditation is certainly a healthy activity, but that doesn't seem to be the reasoning of the god in the christian bible.

He claims to be a jealous god and tends to maim or kill those who pray to other things. Praying to "bad" things, or not praying at all, still seem healthier than death.

I could maybe see an argument for god making up the assault/murder stuff in order to dissuade people from less healthy activities, but then followers are also told to attack non-believers at various points. This isn't even counting eternal torture in the afterlife for praying to the wrong entity.

This video is basically making fun of how adamant god is about being worshiped by his creations even though similar behavior by one of his creations is a punishable offense. If the motivation weren't god's desire to be worshiped then there wouldn't be severe consequences for opting out.

worshipping isn't praying but i'm not gonna split hairs. I can pray for my car, but worshipping my car is something else.

first of all, it doesn't make any sense for god to be a scientist having to destroy robots.
second this story is on the second fucking page of the bible. why would god create adam and eve and then punish them if he created them to betray him.
if there was a god, would he want you asking him stupid questions why he did something a certain way?

this vid uses a Reductio ad absurdum" argument. no?
however it assumes that god absolutely has to be perfectly godlike, just like in a coloring book.
Easy enough to pick an example that makes the coloring book seem absurd.

I would tell you how lame it is to try and use a Reductio ad absurdum argument on someone who exists outside the universe, but then I would look dumb talking down.

cheers psychologic
