Aokigahara Suicide Forest

The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.

This is a VICE production no? I had their VICE travel guide from a few years ago and didn't like it. This makes me think they've gotten a bit more serious in their investigative work. The travel guide just seemed a bit like Jackass without all the stunts.

Really good. I especially enjoyed the second half; what would be morbid or creepy was not with this man as our guide. I could actually see this as an interesting suicide prevention video (maybe thats just me).

Some very good points about humans needing to see and interact physically with one another, and how technology can make this more difficult. I don't think these points can be mentioned enough on the internet.
