Animalympics: Bringing You the Beast in Sports

(1980) Animalympics is an animated film produced by Lisberger Studios, that parodies the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, featuring the voices of Billy Crystal, Gilda Radner, Harry Shearer and Michael Fremer. Originally commissioned by the NBC Television Network in 1978, it was produced as two separate shows intended to air along with the network's 1980 winter and summer Olympics coverage. Due to the 1980 US boycott of the summer games, only the winter portion was shown on TV with the winter coverage.

Don Lisberger and his studio are the guys who did all the animation and effects for Tron. Tron only has about 5 minutes of CGI footage, but the parts of the film taking place inside the computer are basically a rotoscoped animated movie using a photo layer for the characters. The TRON special edition DVD offers a lot of insight into the process and is one of the best times I've ever had with a DVD.
