Air-Conditioned Jackets - Turn up the Heat!

Employees at Kuchou-fuku in Tokyo don't mind that the temperature inside the office is about 100F.

YouTube: 'A Japanese company is promoting air-conditioned jackets and shirts. Self-cooling clothes may seem like the stuff of science fiction, but for this company they are good for business.

Shirts and jackets made by Kuchou-fuku -- meaning "air-conditioned clothes" -- keep the wearer comfortable even in sweltering heat.

Two small fans sewn into the back of each garment are powered by a pocket-sized rechargeable battery pack. The fans circulate air across the wearer's skin, evaporating perspiration and keeping temperatures down. And all this while only using one-50th of the energy of a small air conditioner.

This is a welcome respite from Japan's mid-summer humidity where the temperature has hovered around 38 degrees Celsius recently.'

Well if they were to comply with the Montreal Protocol, Japan would be switching over to R-410A refrigerant which does not contain the ozone depleting haloalkines. In the States, the making and distribution of R22 (chlorodifluoromethane, which has haloalkines) will stop in 2010. Being in the air conditioning business, this means many good things for service-based air conditioning system conversions.

These jackets are, in my opinion, unnecessary, however, at least they're thinking outside of the box.
