11 Year Old Tazed...(March 28, 2008)

So...the kid had a "violent temper tantrum" that resulted in a police officer getting hit. One "punch" to the face, she was Tased for her childish behavior.

Remember the kid is 11 years old, Elementary school, grade 6, I believe?

She was arrested, thrown in Jail, and here you can see her cuffed, shackled and in court. This was just her first day in court, she still faces "Battery" Charges and "resisting arrest with Violence" charges.

Grade 6 children feel safer now.

While I don't believe for a second the child was some innocent little angel, think one of the students said it best, 'If she can't handle an 11 year old she doesn't need to be a cop.'

So...because she comes from a "Christian home," there's no way she could misbehave in class?

...maybe the girl's not the only one mentally set back.

I don't think the mother will win "mother of year" or anything. But if a cop can't restrain an 11 year old without using a taser, your a pretty bad cop.

The Cop by the way refused to speak to the media.

Thats just fucking pathetic! "Violent Crimes?!" Yeah, next up Cops Tase "Violent Puppies" and thats your law "enforcement" nice

I agree, I bet the kid was fighting and being a problem, but since when do you taser children?!

Was the cop threatened? I am not one for "think of the children" speeches, there are some little shits out there whos behaviour is a big problem, but not this...

"Resisting With Violence" - FFS You have got to be kidding...

Just to be clear, you disapline children, not beat them...sorry...tase them, this is NOT the cops job...

If you watched the vid, it's doesn't necessarily illicit sympathy. "We come from a christian home. No way..." Mom is allowed to dig a big, deep denial hole.

But you didn't watch the vid.

So we aren't allowed to question where the line should be drawn? It's unfortunate that people with mental health problems are a big wild card for law enforcement, especially since a good cop is more social worker than enforcer.
Your kneejerk reaction has no bearing on the debate. Sorry you've been tasered.

So what you are basically saying is, even though there is a chance of a fatality, it is perfectly fine for police to use tasers in an entirely non-threatening situation where they could have restrained the individual physically?

I guess it's all fine as long as you're not the one in that position then.

Obviously I'm talking about non-threatening situations, yes I'd rather see someone shot with a taser than a pistol, I thought that was mind numbingly obvious ...

There's a chance of a fatality in a physical takedown also, in some cases more so than from a taser. Some people would rather die than submit. What concerns me most is the mental status of the subject, causing the valuable "if you punch a cop in the face this is what happens" lesson to be wasted.

I'm okay with tasers in principal, but it sets the bar higher for the officers judgment and allows for laziness. If I were a cop, for example, I'd be tempted to use it more often than not. That's why I'm not a cop. Too lazy.
