BBC - The Link - Uncovering Our Earliest Ancestor

honkeytonk73 says...

I don't believe it. It doesn't mesh up with the whole Adam and Eve story which God tells us is TRUE per the Bible. Heck. The 10 Commandments were written on stone rather than a digital storage device. 6000 years ago such highly efficient devices didn't exist... and God simply wanted to make sure he used the highest technological medium for the day. Stone and Chisel.

Why such a highly impractical. Highly immobile. Prone to shattering. Difficult to reproduce. Material? Well... to spread his word to the global masses in as SLOW and UNRELIABLE a method as possible via word of mouth. Through illiterate sheepherders who were likely more interested in populating their flock of 'sex sheep' than increasing the religious flock. All to support some invisible dude in the sky with a resurrected zombie son (who is supposedly God himself), who unbelievably claims to walk on water. Any wise man would have simply used a fucking raft to cross a damn body of water. But. He just had to show off didn't he?! The fucker.

What I'm saying, blankfist, is that a man who calls himself a doctor, yet has outdated knowledge of virology, calls into question his judgment on other issues. It would be like trusting the judgment of a physicist who hasn't bothered to learn about relativity. Trusting someone who is so out of touch with a field that relates to his field of expertise is scary. If his knowledge is so out date in medicine, than what makes him an expert in other fields, like economics?

And GeeSussFreek, Obama may know little about virology, but I'm sure he'd be willing to listen to people who were actual experts, rather than go on his shaky knowledge like Ron Paul does.
The unshakable faith that some people place in market forces rivals the faith that born-again Christians place in a deity that allegedly walked on water and raised the dead. That might be helpful, if that deity could raise the dead people killed by Typhoid Mary. But by God, do NOT restrict her liberty! Market forces will save the day!

Liquid Mountaineering....AKA RUNNING ON WATER!!!!!!!!

Sagemind says...

Sadly, the goofy and fun news clips that close each local news casts may be an endangered species. Or at least, they can no longer be taken at face value. First, take a look at how this was reported:

“Liquid Mountaineering” is a new term created by some European pranksters to describe a new technique they’ve pioneered for walking on water. Actually, they appear to be running on water, and they have the viral video to prove it. The well produced and vaguely believable YouTube clip that has since been revealed to be a “viral ad” for Hi-Tec, but that didn’t stop the news team at WUSA More..in Washington D.C., from reporting it to be true.

hmmm... I can't say for sure because MrFisk's post is region-blocked for me as well, but it probably is a dupe. I guess we should ask someone in UK who can view it, whether or not it is a national geographic clip.

Hey here's a question:

Is http://videosift.com/video/Jesus-Christ-Lizard-Walks-on-Water a dupe of the vid (http://videosift.com/video/Jesus-Christ-Lizard) you posted 1 yr 10 months ago?

I'm region blocked for one of the two vids and don't feel like proxying through to check, just noticed a coincidence.

Dawkins to Imam: What is the penalty for leaving Islam?

ponceleon says...

Sure it is fair to dismiss ALL religion. Just because you are a little crazy in that you believe in magical forces controlling the universe doesn't make it ANY more legitimate.

Of course there are non-violent religious people. Of course there are religious people that don't piss me off as much as the tools I'm mostly talking about, that doesn't mean that they don't suspend reason for something with is just illogical.

I can definitely understand that there are "good teachings" in many religions and I have no problem with that, but it is the fact that those are indistinguishable from the other parts OF THE SAME RELIGIOUS TEXTS which call for violence, war, and intolerance which lead me to my ultimate statement: religion needs to go.

Want to teach about tolerance, love and understanding? Go right ahead, you don't need mana from heaven, Jesus walking on water, crucifixions or Abraham almost killing his son, Mohammed in a bear suit whatever to get there. Secularize the teachings, remove the mumbo-jumbo and the magic rings of power and I'll listen. The problem with mixing good teachings with this suspension of rational thought is that then you are subject to the whims of clergymen who invent their own bullshit (like priests not being able to marry so the church can inherit their property) in order to advance themselves. Teach people to be good and to think, don't teach them superstition, fear and ultimately hate. Yeah yeah, some of these stories in the bible are innocent enough, but by painting this magical harrypotteresque world they open in the doors to people believing in things that WILL have a bad effect on them.

Again I remember a funny debate I had with a Jesus freak: I was discussing abortion and at some point the Jesus freak didn't like the logic I used and tried to convince me that his logic was superior by spouting the following example:

"Unlike you, I believe everyone deserves to live... even someone like YOU. And that is because my god teaches me this."

Think about that for a moment, he was essentially telling me that because of my ideas about abortion and woman's rights, he fundamentally felt that I deserved to die, but only because his god told him not to think that way he was willing to concede me my life.

I do good things because it is better for all of us to be good to each other, not because some magical being threatens me if I don't do what he says. Who is a better person, the one who does good deeds because he wants to do good deeds, or the one who does them because he's afraid of the consequences if he doesn't?

Religion needs to go.

I keep saying this in all these clips and I'll keep doing so:
Religion needs to go.

I don't think it's fair to dismiss all religions on the basis of the actions of a few unintelligent or uninformed people.

Unreported World: The Battle for Israel's Soul

hollywooddigital says...

You got some quantitative data to back up any of these assertions, Mr Scientist?

yes several real world examples .. electricity, air conditioning, computers, iphones, satellites, modern surgery .. all the things you probably take for granted i guess. Products of SCIENCE.

NOT RELIGION.

Religion never produced anything this cool. If it could Jesus would have been carrying around an iPhone GUARANTEED. Instead he allowed himself to get nailed to a cross yet he walked on water just to show off!! HAHA. that's a joke.

But that's not even my main point. The main point is that NOBODY KNOWS what is going to happen when we die. That is the absolute 100% truth! The main reason we have religions is so we can look forward to something in the 'Afterlife' Right? Hypothetically, if we were all immortal and never died, do you think religion would even be an issue for us? I don't. Faith is ok, it can be a beautiful thing. But take religion with a grain of salt so to speak becuse NOBODY REALLY KNOWS and the moment you act like you do and someone else's beliefs are WRONG.. then you are delusional! Craziness occurs when people are delusional..

So with that logic, I say believe what you believe but don't criticize or harm someone else for believing something different.

Do you agree?

Bill O'Reilly: Atheists Are Jealous Of The Holiday

videosiftbannedme says...

I'm not jealous of Christmas, Bill. I am jealous of the fact that you get to believe in talking bushes and men who walk on water, and yet we're the ones who are labeled crazy.

But then again, why try to explain logic to the delusional?

My Favourite Salvia Video - Driving on Salvia

shuac says...

Here's my description of what doing salvia is like.

The first time smoking, it was like I was being flattened out by a huge rolling pin from my legs upward. Not terribly pleasant.

The second time, the extreme physical effects are reduced but walking through a room was like walking through water. Everything happens just a bit slower. Still not very pleasant. The only good thing about it: the smoke smells nice.

I don't plan on doing it a third time. Choose weed. or shrooms.
