Mark Knopfler teaches Romeo and Juliet

It was a typo! Nonetheless, yeah Dire Straits are brilliant.
>> ^ChaosEngine:
Awesome. I know it's "cool" to hate Dire Straits, but I think Knopfler is one of the most underrated guitarists around.
btw, DGDGBD is open G.

After years of playing guitar (badly) I'm really just beginning to start to commence a possible understanding of the instrument

Been toying with open tunings and it's great fun. Can really open up some interesting possibilities.

I'd prefer "niche audience" to "ahead of its time". That's neither a good nor a bad thing, it's not a value judgment. Lots of movies, like this one, are well made and acted but fail to get mainstream recognition. Occasionally that changes with the passage of time, but I'd say that belongs to the more exceptional cases.

I walked up to a theater in a town I didn't know, just looking to kill some time. Had never heard of it before, but it was Tom Hanks, so what the heck.
Only one other person in the theater. First run movie.
I LOVED IT. And I knew it would fail -- it was too ahead of its time, I think.
My favorite moment? Right before they jump in the volcano and he asks her to marry him.
What follows next is the perfect statement of modern neurotic life....
Thanks for posting this. I may have to watch it again, just to revel in it.

Underrated movie that I'm glad I saw when it was new in theatres 20 (jesus FUCK) years ago.

Foster the People: Pumped Up Kicks PARODY! Key of Awesome

Movie Openings That Play With The Studio Logo.

But Sunshine was a crappy film, while Kick-Ass was awesome!
Also,, John Murphy redid the music for Kick-Ass, as you can hear that this version is different (in the small details) than the Sunshine one - at least the one you linked.

Argh, no! Sorry, but one of my pet peeves is giving musical credit to whom it's due in film scoring... Adagio in D Minor was first written by Underworld and John Murphy specifically for the OST of the magnificent and underrated film Sunshine by Danny Boyle.
It has since been "stolen" to score a myriad of other films/trailers/series (e.g. Kick-Ass, The Adjustment Bureau, Fringe, etc etc). It has a history akin to Clint Mansell's RFaD score; created with a specific film in mind, beautifully fitting, then reused for other films with mixed results. I love it when great music gets around, but I do find it a bizarre experience when I'm watching a film and all of a sudden the music of another comes on... kind of breaks the suspension of disbelief quite frankly.
/nerd rant
edit: "Super" > Kick-Ass (even though the latter was a fun watch too)

Loved the music from Kick-Ass.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I will put child garden on my Kindle list.

i liked anathem... but i also liked cryptonomicon, and the baroque cycle.
can't wait to read his new book.
nothing has been as good as the diamond age though.
whatever happened to the tv series they were making out of it?
wasn't george clooney producing it or something?
can i please recommend the child garden by geoff ryman?
i'd love to know what other people think of it.
i reckon it's wildly underrated sci-fi.. actually sci-fi doesn't cover it.
"speculative fiction" maybe.
one of my favourite books ever -- along with contact by carl sagan.
i just finished reading brave new world.
can't believe i'd never read it before.
now i'm dividing my (extremely limited) reading time between:
his dark materials
a song of ice and fire
and, somewhat ironically, a book called "getting things done"
