Stephen Fry on God & Gods

jmzero says...

which is patently false, but of course this is what intellectually dishonest people do when they conduct their argument through ad homs

I wasn't using an ad hominem argument. An ad hominem argument would be that you're wrong because you're an idiot (though, honestly, that's an underrated method of reasoning and actually makes sense here). Instead, my argument was related to subject and only later did I call you an idiot. Well, I might have called you some things before that too - but in any case those things weren't the starting point for my argument. But I guess you don't understand logic either.

Anyways, I'm content to rest there in terms of subject because you've yet to say anything of substance back in terms of discussion. The best you did is gainsay, but even that was hamstrung by your lack of understanding of my points (and similar lack of understanding of the books you claim to have read). You gainsaid a lot of stuff nobody said.

To be clear, I've heard very intelligent arguments in favor of creationism and I think there's lots to debate in terms of current scientific understanding of evolution and related topics. I really enjoy discussing things online with people. There's been many times when I've changed my mind, or at least become more open to another position, after hearing good arguments.

But that's not going to happen with you: you don't understand my side, your side, or anything beyond the very basics of science or philosophy - and you are dead set against any kind of earnest exchange of ideas. Obviously you don't agree with my assessment there. Maybe you think I'm mean. I don't care. I only write this last part as advice: people will give up trying to discuss things with you, but it's not because they're impressed by what you've said. They just don't want to talk to a douche.

Normally I would contest anything Arnie-related being in the terrible channel (even Jingle All The Way, which I think is an underrated holiday gem), but... yeah, this is pretty terrible. The designs and overall animation quality reminds me of late '80s / early '90s cheese like Captain Planet and C.O.P.S. I don't know what Arnie was thinking associating himself with this. Still, it is Arnie, so *quality.

Reggie Watts on Conan 16/2/2011

C'mon ya! I can't believe there isn't over 100 votes for this. Reggie is amazing! Very underrated. Watch some of the other videos as well. I like how Conan's voice breaks at the end.

few things come to mind:

a) hardhats are underrated in some countries.
b) from the wall splatters, that method is messy as hell
c) bupa needs a new getout clause for spine related claims
d) buckets ! - even slap together a wooden square bucket would be better.

Babylon 5 - Every Time I Say NO

Quite possibly the most underrated show of all time. Such a shame that all the spin offs crapped out.

Ya, the universe they created was pretty interesting. Much beyond the typical star trekesk stereotyping of races as archetypes of the human condition. While many episodes are very single serving, the overall story arch of years or more was welcome, as it is so rarely or poorly done. My favorite dynamic was the role of the elder species, very neat concept of good and evil.

Terry Gilliam criticizes Spielberg and Schindler's List

The film A.I. started out as a Kubrick project, a project that Kubrick wanted Spielberg to direct, because he felt Spielberg's directing style would best fit the script. The film never got out of the development phase, because the effects technology of the time were not convincing enough for Kubrick's high standards. After Kubrick passed, Spielberg picked it up and made a very dark, beautiful and underrated film. One of his best IMO.
I think Kubrick would have ended the movie when the boy freezes, but Spielberg just had to "wrap it up". I'm with you until that part of the movie, but then then he completely lost me.

That's actually not true. I thought for sure that that was the case when I saw it too, but the whole thing with the aliens was all Kubrick.
