corporate media tool gets taken to school about syria

newtboy says...

Torn.
I want to upvote the idea that one should be quite suspicious of 'news' and understand that a combination of single, third-party source laziness and overt bias makes most reporting biased if not pure fiction,
but,
I can't upvote the 'everybody is lying to you, except me. Only trust me and no one else' self serving bullshit. Dore is not above using bad/unreliable/unverifiable sources or biased reporting himself, and by claiming he is the only one offering the truth, even in jest, he's putting himself in a group of self aggrandizing narcissists like Trump, Alex Jones, and Glen Beck.

Why Did Steve Jobs Die?

newtboy says...

What idiocy, once again this "doctor" gets it all backwards.
Claiming Jobs' cancer couldn't be cured, contrary to the opinion of all medical professionals involved, based on third hand gossip reporting, just ridiculous. When biopsied and scanned, it was said to be curable (not 100% of the time, but normally), but not later after he tried to cure it with veganism rather than get real medical attention, like an idiot, by which time it had spread and was no longer treatable. That was just stupid. Being intelligent does not preclude one from being stupid...trust me.
His wife and doctors absolutely had the right answers if he wanted to try to survive.
He deluded himself with magical vegan thinking, believing he could get enough high quality proteins from vegetables, and clearly even with all the money in the world to buy the best plant proteins, he could not, and so he also suffered from wasting syndrome. He also believed plant based herbal remedies would cure him, they don't.
Jobs said clearly he regretted his actions, and also said charlatans like this would make stuff up about it, and he was right.

Little Boy Takes A Solid Stance For Never Getting Married

officer Izzo-a message and a plea to the public

enoch says...

@newtboy
i think you are being a tad over-zealous in your commentary.
now you know i agree with you on pretty much all aspects of police:brutality, malfeasance, hubris, fascism etc etc..

but we both realize that for the majority of police officers it is a job,and one they take seriously.statistically this is just a plain fact.

so i am struggling to understand your rage induced commentary directed toward a cop who is simply saying "please, comply".

that is pretty sound advice when dealing with an agent of the state who is not only authorized to use physical force, but carries a gun.

i found his advice pretty non-controversial.

your obvious points non-withstanding,because your points are accurate and have caused incredible misery, but his advice is also just as sound, and if it could deter even just one police beating.wouldn't that be worth it?

i am telling ya man, izzo is a pretty straight up guy for a cop,and he addresses pretty much every point you brought up on his channel.i know some of those points he makes you will disagree with, because i disagreed, but this man will surprise you on a bunch of points.i know he surprised me.

here is a video of him talking about his impending termination.he knew it was coming because he exposed corruption in his precinct:
https://youtu.be/-4TpcIPKj_E
*edit:i should post this video next round, give it a watch newt.

he has one video where he talks about quotas, and the reason why they are supposedly "non-existent".they do not call them quotas, but they are penalized if they give out too many warnings,or write a lower cost infraction.

trust me man,put aside your cop hate and check this dude out.you can still disagree, but he does give a solid representation of a cops perspective.

Cows Stranded After New Zealand 7.8 Earthquake

ChaosEngine says...

Yeah so, a couple of things.
1. It was a 7.5

and
2. as someone who lived through it, and had to be evacuated because of a tsunami warning at 2am, trust me.... it really wasn't that funny.

*nochannel *nature *fear *downunder

Also, cows aren't pets.

newtboy said:

Um.....comedy? Not to me....or those cows I would bet. I hope someone goes out with a bobcat and makes a ramp for them or airlifts them out before they fall off that cliff. Poor guys.
Not exactly pets either, but there's no livestock tag.

Why Doesn't Time Flow Backwards?

Michael Jackson - Black Or White Tribute

transmorpher says...

I guess I failed, but I was attempting to point out that the political issues they are showing also aren't Black or White.

They did spend the first 60 seconds of the video delivering a political message (with terrorist/ISIS related news clips).

I wouldn't have commented had it been only great dancing. But nativity of their message bothers me.

Trust me, I'd love to live in a world where a bunch of attractive people can dance away our problems

eric3579 said:

BOOOOOOO! As if this video has absolutely anything to do with ISIS. Did you really feel the need to push some personal issue you have into a dance videos comment thread? Less buzz kill, please. It's just a music/dance video.

My God, It's Full of St...Spiders

skinnydaddy1 jokingly says...

I'm sorry officer. Yes, I set it on fire. Trust me. It all had to burn. The flame thrower and the 50 gallons of gas was a "Just to be sure" back up plan.

We also might need to move really far away. The napalm strike should be here any minute.

Introducing FarmBot Genesis

newtboy says...

Mostly correct, but it is a solution to taking control of your own food production methods without using the time it takes to do so normally (and trust me, it takes a LOT of your time, more than most people have to spare). Also, for those not able to farm because of their physical conditions, this could allow them to have the garden they choose and enjoy fresh vegetables they would otherwise not have access to.

That said, if you start off by spending $3000 (on sale) for your "farmer", on top of the normal costs to put together and farm a garden, it's going to take quite a while to pay for itself. A neighborhood kid working for $10 an hour would probably be a better long term investment, and also probably wouldn't require repairs or replacement in a few years.
If I could build it all myself for 1/3 the cost, or got it as a gift, I could put it together with my existing garden and make it pay off in a year (if I count my time as valuable, which I don't). At full price, I doubt it would last long enough to pay off ever.

This Diagram Explains Trump's Response To Orlando

dannym3141 says...

Listening to Trump is like listening to a kid give a pretend speech.

"We need to get the bad people what did this and all the muslims must cooperate with the police to get the bad men because they know, they know who the bad people are and they have to tell us."

It's like watching a confidence trickster sell snake oil - "It works, I know.. I know, trust me." - and I'm one of the only people that can see through it. Inside there's a desperate man with a hunted look on his face going "Please tell me they bought what I just said and they're not going to pour all my oil down the drain and make me walk out of town with my pants around my ankles again."

He's like a white, old Kanye West - he's all talk and no substance, his best stuff happened so long ago no one can remember whether it was really any good in the first place or just good fortune and all his co-workers think he's a joke and can't believe how he ever got to where he's gotten. Whilst Kanye married into an association with a big arse, Trump achieved that all by himself though he did have a head start with that name.

Dear Trump Supporters

dannym3141 says...

What makes you believe and trust in Trump's motivation to do this? I accept that the figurehead of a larger than life, brash character taking the fight to the industrialists is a nice (if a bit Ayn Rand-ish) mental image that fits a romantic view of things.

But is it any more realistic to believe that a man motivated all his life by the desire to consolidate wealth and power would altruistically suddenly decide to reach out and make drastic changes to create a world which works for the poorest, least educated member of society? On balance of evidence, is that more likely than him turning out to be another Bush? Who i hope we can agree probably didn't make life any easier for the average working family considering wealth inequality has increased steadily since say the early 90s? Is a man at the top of that wealth inequality gap more likely to increase or decrease said gap?

Bernie's supporters feel the urgent need for radical change that essentially deals with social equality. They feel like people like Trump have been manipulating the system against them all their lives - whether that's a fair accusation or not. They're going to need convincing that Trump knows what to do and will do it. Policy documents would probably help his credibility.. it might not be the normal way of doing things but these aren't normal times. I don't see Bernie supporters, sick of being lied to, buying into phrases like "trust me" and "i know".

Government is run by big business. You need a leader with big balls and a force to recon with to be able to change the status quo. Trump could possibly do this. Bernie and Hillary could not.

But how do you REALLY feel, Jennifer?

Payback says...

Trust me. It's more than just his gender.

It's his hairstyle too.

Bill Maher: New Rule – There's No Shame in Punting

heropsycho says...

First off, he's not talking about everyone who plays video games. He's talking about people who ONLY play video games to the point that they're socially maladjusted. Big difference.

And even if he was talking about the geekier video gaming crowd, I don't even understand why it even registered on your radar as insulting. If you're a group that's actually discriminated against broadly, fine, but nerds? In this day and age of Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates? Really?!

It reminds me of this Louie CK bit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AbxHo9ybD0

"You can't even hurt my feelings."

Us poor nerds these days, with our solid paying upper middle class jobs and even higher, with college degrees! Pity us!

Just have the ability to laugh at yourself from time to time. Trust me, it's all going to be ok.

ChaosEngine said:

yeah, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't call it out.

It's a lazy stereotype and honestly, these days it's about as funny, original and accurate as saying "hah! women! everyone knows they can't play sports!"

If you're going to pull out a lazy stereotype at least be funny with it.
