How it's made - Trombones

Abducted says...

>> ^NicoleBee:
How many announcers do they record for these episodes? And why? Are the original canadian ones just not good enough?

I've heard the same episode talked by two people, Tony Hirst for the UK/European edition and then this muppet here. I've also heard some episodes on the web with some woman but don't know if they voiced over the same episodes.

Glass Trombone: Making Of

HadouKen24 says...

There's no spit valve, and the mouthpiece is permanently attached. Most trombones allow you to change out the mouthpiece in order to get a slightly different sound.

The advantage of doing a trombone is that it doesn't matter quite so much if you can't get the tuning slide to work in glass. It'll be slightly off with the slide all the way in, but a skilled player should be able to adjust for every other note.

That said, making a trombone out of glass that not only works but sounds good is frigging impressive.

That was totally cool, and he's got some serious chops too. But where's the spit valve? The sound track had some nice trombone bits in it too - that part around 1:00 would be fun to belt out - is that an "original" version of Frankie or could it have been custom-arranged for this?

Orchestral instruments built from a Ford Focus

Abducted says...

"Composer Craig Richey, sound designer Bill Milbrodt, and friends used a five-door Focus fresh from the factory floor, took it apart, then used the car's many parts to create 31 musical instruments. We're not talking flutes and trombones here, folks. The musical maestros used Focus parts to create such original works as a Rear Suspension Spike Fiddle and Door Harp." -audioporncentral.com

The music is real, the video is TV magic.
