Jenna Jameson on O'Reilly talks about Feminism and Porn

Spoco: True. You make valid points. and I too struggle with the whole porn thing. I love it. I hate it.
That being said, in a free society, one has to make room for this stuff. So Jenna hasn't gotten over her unhappiness? Well boo hoo, neither have I. So what? Where's my 15 mins with Bill O (so I could smash his self-righteous face against the wall and blame it on my parents while I lick his blood from my knuckles)? As for the porn industry being full of miserable bastards: take a look around any industry and you'll find sad desperation, in all it's insidious forms, anywhere you have the guts to acknowledge its existence.
The real problem in thinking here (imho) is in believing that what pornstars do is "Wrong", in the mortal sin kind of way. It's a trapping of the whole puritanical taboo against sex that runs so strong in N.A. society. Yes, people have sex with strangers for money. It's time we got over that already.
What they do is a choice, of their making, based on their life experience. And compared to other (comparatively morally ambiguous) choices, it isn't all that bad a way to make a living, really. Sure, you can rail against it and say that it's demeaning and demoralizing, but then you should rail against telemarketing to, not because it's annoying to you, but because it's psychologically damaging to the people who choose to do it.
But not many people take that stance....though by your argument it's equally valid.
Have sex with strangers; work at Walmart; call people you don't know in their homes and try to sell them something they've never heard of. Hmmmm.....tough call. I have a vague idea of what kind of whore I'd want to be, though.
To to be honest, I don't give a flying fuck if porn is empowering or not. That's not my problem. Or yours. It's Jenna's. If she says it is, then that's got to be good enough....assuming one gives her an ounce of respect.

Yeah, we shouldn't look down on people for having sex with others for money if that's what they chose, but the problem is that in so many cases they either do it and really, really hate it, and themselves, for doing it, purely because they need the money, or they're doing it while reaching out for something they're lacking in their relationships. Have a look at the movies "The Girl Next Door" or "Sex, the Annabel Chong story" for a couple of examples of the sorts of lives these women have... then you can also look up info on Asia Carerra, a porn star who has been admitted to Mensa, is very smart, and yet due to various bad things occurring during her younger years, ended up in porn also. What about Linda Lovelace from Deep Throat? Check out Louis Theroux's Documentary on Porn, that demonstrates how unhappy men can be in the roles also. (Yes, this is something that interests me quite a bit, because as I said, I would love to just be able to enjoy porn, but it's really hard when you are faced with the ugly behind the scenes truth... spoils the illusion) There are so, so, so many cases of these people not being happy at all, at all... try and find me one who's finished with the industry and still says 'Yeah, I loved it, it was a great job'. I think you'll have a hard time. OR even 'Yeah, I did that, it's behind me now, it didn't affect me at all, and I've moved on to better things' (like someone who had a job at Walmart might)

As much as you can say it's their choice, they have a right to do it if they want to etc. etc. and some woman say that they do like it, and they love it etc. I've yet to see a woman come out the other end and not be changed for the worse by this.

Oh, and Choggie mentioned the rise of brutal and degrading porn... yeah I've seen some of that on the web etc. and that is really wrong, the direction the industry has taken, seemingly towards more mistreatment of women is horrible. Give me a movie where the woman is pleasured and the man perhaps not even at all, and I'll find it more of a turn on, because at least that makes it more possible to believe everyone is having a good time.

Google "Biggest Regret"

Xax says...

I'm not a big fan of people doing things like this video... ie. taking other people's stuff and putting it together with minimal effort to try and be poignant. It almost works, though.

Whoever's biggest regret is yelling at a telemarketer, I'd like to put my foot up their ass.

5 Things You Hate About Videosift (Sift Talk Post)

"the lapse of intelligent commentary"

Have you been to other video related websites? The comments here are above average. There are still intelligent statements being posted here. Other sites have retards, spambots, chain letters, etc.
--------------------
Only 4 things come to mind.

1. 'The waves'
A couple of videos fitting certain criteria do well, people notice this and then proceed to Supersaturate the Sift with every other similar video. Sadly, everyone seems to play along and many of them get easily promoted to the front even though they lack the quality of the first successful posts.

Example: Scientology and Zero punctuation.

2. Door to door salesman/telemarketer lingo used on video titles.
3. Extremely silly channel labeling.

Example: "Oh this video about an Optical illusion has background music in it, lets add it to the music channel!" That to me is the equivalent of watching a video and labeling it as Art just because I saw a painting hanging on a wall.

4. The manner some of the votes are given. ( "upvote just for the title", "she's hot, upvote" )

But that's more nitpicking than anything else on my part, overall VideoSift is a great place. Don't take this site for granted people.

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

I suppose I can join in the fun... Hello everyone, I'm mike sol (short for my real name)... I'm 20 years old, I go to UTEP (University of Texas El Paso) and my part time job is telemarketing for AT&T wireless...

My user name MAS8705 has a long history behind it for this has always been a user name I have had since I was young... My sister set it up for me and since then I have like the sound of it and how it was put together... the part MAS is actually my initials Mike Austin Sol... I like my initials and its fun to spell it out... the part 87 was the year I was born and finally the part 05 was the year I graduated from high school... While I do have other user names I use in other places (TheMASterblader on XBOX live) I have been happy with my original user name...

As for my avatar, so far I have had three of them (planing on making/using more...) When I first started, I had a picture of Kenshin from the anime since I was a fan of the anime (along with others) and always love the idea of swordplay... My second avatar was my version of the "why so serious" Joker, I admit I got the idea from Lucky when he turned his Lucky avatar into the Joker and decided to make one of my own, it actually came out well, considering I'm not that artistic yet... And finally the one I'm using now is Homer as Kratos, God of War... This was off of a site for Mugen and was from a guy named Warner, I thought this was the perfect avatar to have since everyone loves Homer and furthers the idea that I'm the Video Game Expert of Videosift (now if I could just take over the channel)..

As for my next avatar, well I'm sure I'll figure something out soon...

Good for you, YDJ. We're talking about doing the same thing. Cable was a necessary evil when we lived in the sticks, but now that we're near a large city, we hardly watch tv.

We pay almost 170 a month for the cable, internet and phone bundle. We follow like 3 shows and rarely let the children use the tv. The phone is just an annoying venue for telemarketers and we have cell phones anyway.

What bugs me is if I dump my other services, what I pay for internet will go up a little. It's almost like a penalty for not buying the other two.

I never got the hang of the bittorrent thing. I tried downloading one once and watched that little flying file transfer icon, but no movie was actually downloading.

Life's not à la carte..

In life...

If a neighbor is bumping music you don't want to hear you have the option to close your window.

When you get to the gory scenes in Hostel you can cover your eyes.

When a telemarketer calls during dinner you can hang up your phone.

If you don't want to watch commercials during your favorite show, you can skip them with your Tivo.

If you're bored on stage during a MLK Jr. Day speech you can doze off.

British Telecom Telemarketer Wasn't Prepared For This!

sadicious says...

I'm not sure what the problem is with a company calling their own client's. This doesn't even fall in the category of cold calling. If it were cold calling, then yeah, it's annoying. Being annoying does not mean their life should be threatened.

This is just typical of most people, including myself. We feel passionate about a problem, but do nothing that would do any good to fix it. He got all worked up to tell the telemarketer off, and in the end, it did nothing.

Personally, I think BT should just cut off all his services for making such threats to their employees. Who needs to deal with people like that?

This video still amused me.

People can make the "don't shoot the messenger" argument all they want, but I say anyone willingly working for telemarketing companies is just as guilty and deserving of an earful.

Haha classic. The telemarketer should have f-ing listened to him the first time and hung the f-up. Get a clue. No means no. The marketer deserved every last bit of it. I can't stand those bastards invading my home via phone.

I disagree, that kind of treatment, especially with the inclusion of threats, is seriously inappropriate. Something like "don't shoot the messenger" imo. I don't like telemarketers, I usually just abruptly end their calls with the off button rather than verbally harassing and threatening the telemarketer.
