While I laugh, and while we're all in the right to feel a bit of a consumer victory against telemarketers in general thanks to a video like this, I can't help but feel bad for the girl (assuming this is real).

Why would you feel bad for her at all? From the way he's acting, the only impression one can assume she has is that she believes he has some sort of issue with his mental capacity, and DESPITE that, she is STILL trying to sell the paper to him. This is clearly the sort of bitch that would attempt to sell her shitty product to an older person with Alzheimer's who doesn't even want it. Fuck her.

When I moved in my new appartment I had a few of those calls around dinner time on my land line every working day. After a while I got sick of it and I went with this trick:

Telemarketeer: "Hello sir, Is Mr. Laekroth there?"
Laekroth: "Let me see if he's at home..."

... and then put the phone on the side and continue doing what I was doing. After 5 minutes they usually hang up. Mobile phones for the win

I just recently quit a telemarketing job (worst job ever, btw), and I don't think this is versed at all. He sounds exactly like a lot of my ex co-workers when dealing with a very difficult person on the phone. You're actually allowed to 'cop an attitude', just so long as it keeps you in control of the customer.
You can hear him try to do that, but it's pretty apparent that (like with most people) the idea of talking to a police officer suddenly out of nowhere immediately put him on the defense, and scared him shitless.

Some legitimate companies actually sell their customer contact info database to telemarketing and email spam companies, in the guise of "we're not disclosing personal information, since only the phone number and email address are given to the dude paying us".

My government passed a law a while ago banning most forms of unsolicited advertising, including phone and email spam, and the spammers got around it by calling once and hanging up, and letting you call them back to check who it was. I can't imagine anyone buying anything from that type of advertiser.
