Woohooooooo! PARTY!

You mean *woohoo

Aside from the sifting itself, it's been fun meeting up with sifters from Vancouver to Toronto to Montrealand the UK was cool. Shoot, technically we had a siftup in Turkey when we visited @messenger but that was part of a much larger adventure which has taken up a good chunk of my sparetime.

I recall trying to check out every vid on the sift by following it in my RSS feed. The amount of time spent here isn't the same as back then, but it's still a fantastic place to come back to.

Among so many other things, like the community, it's been a great way to tell telemarketers for cable companies why I don't need their overpriced services.

That would be easy, program it to wait for a pause and reply with, "I don't understand.", "Tell me more.", "Could you repeat that?" and a few others.

My tactic is to just leave the phone on the table and forget about it. I've had them hang on for over a minute. This is, of course, much more amusing but also takes much more effort. Maybe a compromise could be had with some kind of automated soundboard to keep them going. Think of it as adding some selective pressure to the mix of business evolution.
Edit: It also occurs to me that the internet is quite awesome in that it's actually quite likely the lady at the other end of the phone will end up seeing this video.

When I was a telemarketer I loved shit like this. Anything that keeps me talking on the phone to convince my boss I'm working and to keep me from thinking about how sad and pathetic my life is because I'm working as a telemarketer for the most soulless F*&%*(# C*&^ Ahhhh!

When I get telemarketer calls sometimes, I start asking them about their day and try to cheer them up. Then I get them to start venting about how much their job sucks and what a cock their boss is.

While I laugh, and while we're all in the right to feel a bit of a consumer victory against telemarketers in general thanks to a video like this, I can't help but feel bad for the girl (assuming this is real).

Why would you feel bad for her at all? From the way he's acting, the only impression one can assume she has is that she believes he has some sort of issue with his mental capacity, and DESPITE that, she is STILL trying to sell the paper to him. This is clearly the sort of bitch that would attempt to sell her shitty product to an older person with Alzheimer's who doesn't even want it. Fuck her.

Because she's a human being. And while there may have been other options for her, there probably weren't a ton, with the state of the world economy atm. If he'd said no thank you, the call would have been over. Your suggestion that she's supposed to diagnose the guy on the other end of the phone and ascertain the nature of his mental illness is a bit unfair.

I don't like telemarketers. I think it's a loathesome profession. But it sounds like she's just trying to do her job, and she is pretty darn patient and courteous throughout.

Or perhaps another way to look at it:
Isn't sad that this person is in a desperate position that she is forced to take a job cold-calling people trying to sell a paper? Of course listening to how young she sounds, this sounds more like that first job that you have to take to put something down on your resume.

Of course, I tend to fail empathetic so my view might be skewed.
