Once I was a Champion (trailer)

How do you not plan how much gas you're going to need? I refuse to watch this movie that will possibly contain the answer...someone must tell me the answer and THEN I'll watch the movie.

"It seems some MMA websites have reported on the story, posting up that I might die out in the desert, or that it might be my greatest opponent yet, etc. Come on, guys. It's really common down in Southern California to go out to the off-road recreation areas in the desert about an hour away from LA and San Diego.

So my plan is to go out to the desert, do some camping, ride the motorcycle, and shoot some guns. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. A lot of people do it. This isn't a version of 'Into the Wild.'" -Evan Tanner

Perhaps he underestimated the situation. edit: Then again, maybe not. Above quote was 11 days after he wrote the following:

"I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life. I've been doing a great deal of research and study. I want to know all I can about where I'm going, and I want to make sure I have the best equipment."

I don't understand how the brakes can have any effect on the pitch while he's in the air.

It is momentum and the gyroscopic effect. Throttle brings the nose up, brakes bring the nose down. True story.

Police Officer Protecting and Serving the Shit Out Of You!

The Sheriff's office "Will continue it's investigation"???
What fucking circumstances warrant beating a seemingly calm man in the face with a Mag-light? And I mean, Mag-lights are the Cadillacs of flashlights.
Damn I like Mag-lights. What was I saying? Oh yeah?! Fuck the Police!!!

How is struggling with a police officer on the hood of a cop cruiser "seemingly calm"? Why did he try to take the cops flashlight? Hitting him twice in the face is hardly a beating. I'd say Mr. Tanner needs to man up. You know why? Cause fuck him, that's why.

A group of people like those 3 (2 men, 1 woman) have the power to defuse things pretty effectively. A person by themselves is much less likely to go against a group, particularly if they're trying to mediate.
If they make clear early on that they're not going to let her damage property, that can help limit her will to escalate things.
Life rewards being proactive.

Do us all a favor, put down that "Danny Tanner's Guide to Conflict Resolution" and step outside every once in a while.

Really this guy did a great job not meeting her anger with his own. I would've been more proactive about getting the children away from the situation and either getting her out of there, or getting the police over ASAP, because I know I can't stay calm forever.

365 Days of Exercise

To me this video is the other extreme, where you work out hours every day, don't eat anything that tastes good, and become self-obsessed with your body.

Huh? How do you know he doesn't eat anything that tastes good and is self-obsessed?

I'm guess you're just making excuses for not getting in shape yourself.

365 Days of Exercise

ponceleon says...

This whole "getting ripped" this is just awful. I agree that exercise is very important, as is having a sensible diet, but the idea of cutting out all the pleasure of food is one that just doesn't take into account the wonderful thing that food is. It is about balance though. If you are eating fast food every day, your sense of taste is just as dulled as if you are eating something really bland... all you taste is the fat content and your reptile brain saying "yes, good, store more for the on-coming lean months after harvest."

Hunger is the best appetizer, but it also requires that you savor those things which are beatifully put together from a gastronomic perspective. Back to our discussion on Foie Gras; it is not the sort of thing you want at every meal, but when you have it, it is wonderful.

It is about balance... you exercise, eat reasonably most days and have something special at a restaurant or at home once in a while. To me this video is the other extreme, where you work out hours every day, don't eat anything that tastes good, and become self-obsessed with your body.

Another "Bushie" -- the Head of Voting Rights in DOJ

longde says...

Dag,

The racism occurred in Tanner's use of flawed information. He is in favor of a law that would restrict voting to people who have ID. This law will reduce non-white voters at the polls, but Tanner wants to assert that it will in fact favor black people by citing stereotypes as data, and by focusing on numbers that may be true, but irrelevant.

When the congressman asks him about elderly minority voters, his point is that since the minorities (blacks) that vote contain a high percentage of elderly, above age 65, the voter ID law will actually hurt black turnout, since these voters don't usually carry ID. The stereotypes Tanner based his supposition on IMO assumed a younger demographic, that dies early, gets harassed by the police, and frequents check cashing places. The fact that 40+% of black that vote are elderly blows Tanners characterization apart.

they should've included douchebags with spray tans. as a poor girl living in a rich neighborhood in florida, let's just say I would be happy if I could go the rest of my life without seeing naked spray tanned moobs bouncing up and down as some douchebag jogs by me.

I believe the line was, "crush a Redbull, my self tanner's on..." @23 sec.
Just glad my Chinese symbol isn't on my back. Phew!

UK amateur Tanner vs New Jersey Nets star Harris 1 on 1

SDGundamX says...

Tanner's response to this vid (from Times Online):

Mr Tanner said that Harris probably underestimated him because of his casual clothes. “My brother asked him and Devin looked at me in my jeans and jumper and probably thought I was no threat at all,” he said. “He missed and I scored my first hoop, which made him suddenly show me some respect. He stepped up the second time and was defending properly but I managed to pull out a trick and bounce it through his legs and score again.

“It was a bit embarrassing for him as you shouldn’t ever really get beaten like that but he took it really well and was very nice about it. I don’t want to be a big head about this. I was excited and amazed when I saw that one hundred thousand people had watched the video.

“I haven’t played seriously for five years, I never made it as a professional and all of a sudden everyone is talking about me, which is amazing.”

I think it's a little unfair to bash Harris. Anyone can have an off-day, but I think Harris has proven with his career that he can be consistently good in the long run--something Tanner was unable to do apparently. But who knows, maybe after the past 5 years he's become more consistent. Certainly seems like it's worth a shot for him to try out again for a team. I just like the fact that he's humble about it.
