Guy films juvenile kestrel in the backyard when suddenly...
On a different note, is a kestrel a kind of hawk? It looks super cool, but very small.
The Japanese Bullet Train - Shinkansen
Visited my brother there in 2006 and we took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hiroshima. And you're right, they're a lot of fun. Just super cool. Definitely a different type of experience than say, this -- although sticking your head out a window and getting coal embers in your eye has its own charm.
Quote hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
A few years ago the family went to Japan for a couple of weeks and we bought a Japan rail pass. The Shinkansen are just an amazingly fun experience. Especially when you can just hop on or off with a pass. If you have kids - I highly recommend the experience.
Small, efficient NY apartment
Super cool... for a single person that doesn't spend a lot of time in their apartment and has no hobbies whatsoever.
Evaporating Water Experiment at -41°C/F
http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/General/hot_water.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mpemba_effect
The "Mpemba effect", hot water freezing faster than cold water, is not currently well understood. Some possible explanations are (summed up from above reading).
Evaporation of hot water is a heat transport method out of the main body of liquid, causing a super cooling effect.
Convection currents in warmer water might spread around ice crystals faster.
Frost effect will tend to cause a generally slow freezing from the top instead of warm water from the bottom and sides
None of these give a full account to the phenomena and each has been individually ruled out as the sum total of the effect. Some myriad of factors or some basic lack of insight into thermodynamics is most likely the culprit.
The short of it is...no one really knows.
WTF?!?!? How is this done?? Someone please physics me.

Google demonstrates GLASS. $1500 and shipping next year
It's $1500 I believe for the early Developer kits actually. If it's somewhere around $600-$800 I can see myself buying this, if only because I ride a motorcycle and it would be super cool to be able to get all my maps and control music and do whatever with them.
Strange Stone Keeps Returning to Original Position When Spun
As you can see from the second spin, it just reverses its spin direction, and doesn't seek to return to its original position.
Still super cool and I want one. The explanation for it has earned this sift a *science tag.

Anyone know what the name of this system is?
"Trans-Underwater Rocket Delivery System", obviously.
It was either that or Forestalled Aquatic Rocket Takeoff System.
