Is Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty?

TheFreak says...

I think in answer to the question, "Is Obama poised to cede US sovereignty?", the answer is likely, "No".

But I am still stocking up on Axe body spray just in cases the Americorp army marches on my city. The Americorp happens to made up 75% of cute girls. They will utterly fail at any attempt to subjugate the masses but afterwards...I figure hey, lots of cute girls in town.

Miss California on self: "Miss Heaven"

2:55-3:05 went something like this inside her head:

And even though....(uh....oh shit...I forgot my line. Uh.... Shit! [looks down, reads] Oh that's right! I'm supposed to pause after I say "I didn't win the crown that night", and then start crying. Ok. You got it. Ok, you can do this. Poise! Poise! And remember the tears!)

And even though, I didn't win the crown that night...

Dan Savage on progressing public thought on gay marriage

peggedbea says...

who the hell do you hang out with?
most of the people i know arent gay and most of the people i know are actually pretty damn gung ho about equality.
deciding people dont care if it doesnt actually directly affects them is part of the problem.

hes in the position he is in because has the outlet. he is a writer and sex columnist. and is intelligent and poised and wise and articulate and clever. the recent series of savage videos on the sift are from talks and q&a sessions he has at colleges, answering peoples questions about sex. he didnt go there to proselytize a gay agenda. he was answering a question a student asked at a sexuality education talk.

so we can assume that the audience isnt overwhelming gay, and the audience seems pretty fucking gung ho about equality too.

i reject your statements that people that dont belong to your particular group arent concerned with your plight. and i dont think he actually meant neanderthal when he said "knuckle dragging bigot". im half limbaugh, the limbaughs are all knuckle dragging bigots. theyre also all extremely wealthy and powerful.

Thanks. I don't demand or expect people to agree with me. I simply communicate the reality that there is more than one way to interpret news events, and that the conservative POV is not limited to, nor even fairly represented by, Bill O'Rielly clips.

I disagree with a lot of what you have to say.
However, for whatever it's worth, I have a tremendous amount of admiration for your poise and composure and for the intelligent way you present your point of view.

Moxy Fruvous "The Drinking Song"

calvados says...

http://lyricwiki.org/Moxy_Früvous:The_Drinking_Song

(Mike)
And the band played on
As the helicopters whirred
Drunk on the lawn in a nuclear dawn
My senses finally blurred

He was a rock, to the end, a solid reminder
Couldn't deny a friend

(Mike & Jian)
We lived in the noise and the sweet amber poison

(Mike)
Peekin' up the skirt of the end

And we'd drink, two gnarly dudes and some records
Much like plates of black food

(Mike & Jian)
We filled up our faces, saw some far places

(Mike)
Stood on the roof in the nude

(All)
And the band played on
As the helicopters whirred
Drunk on the lawn in a nuclear dawn
My senses finally blurred

(Mike)
Between pulls, he said "We're like cows in the grass"
Brushing off flies

(Mike & Jian)
Chaise lounging around, standing up, falling down

(Mike)
Till we no longer opened our eyes

And we'd drink, ever notice how drinking's like war?
Cup o' troops o'er the gums

(Mike & Jian)
To the end of our health, a campaign 'gainst myself

(Mike)
Armed with bourbons and scotches and rums

(All)
And the band played on
As the helicopters whirred
Drunk on the lawn in a nuclear dawn
My senses finally blurred

(Mike)
Think of bombs, we're poised on the edge of disaster
Whether it's right or it's wrong

(Mike & Jian)
We opened the window, played some Nintendo

(Mike)
Sang a few bars of some pretty old song:

(All)
Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene

(Mike)
I'll see you in my dreams

Oh to dream, those impotent bones of extinction
Flying graceful and free

(Mike & Jian)
None but the best 'cause the man cannot rest

(Mike)
Till he's finally beaten his me

(All)
And the band played on
As the helicopters whirred
Drunk on the lawn in a nuclear dawn
My senses finally blurred

(Mike)
Till the end, he passed out on the sundeck that morning
Quietly saying goodbye

(Mike & Jian)
But I was so hammered I sputtered and stammered

(Mike)
Told him he couldn't just die

He was a rock, went straight for his own Armageddon
Face froze in a grin

(Mike & Jian)
Ambulance flyin' in, I never drank again

(Mike)
Can't really call that a loss or a win

(All, acappella)
And the band played on
As the helicopters whirred
Drunk on the lawn in a nuclear dawn
My senses finally blurred

A flying face-full of Bruno

youdiejoe says...

In case your google search box is broken:

Andy Samberg’s head writer on the MTV Movie Awards, Scott Aukerman, now admits that the controversial Bruno/Eminem stunt was completely staged and rehearsed.

Which means that Slim Shady -- who appeared to be utterly horrified at the sight of Bruno's privates and later stormed out of the Universal Ampitheatre in anger -- is a much better actor than he proved in "Eight Mile."

Why, he's poised to be the new Sean Penn!

According to the Pop and Hiss blog, after a day of silence from Slim Shady and MTV, Aukerman wrote on his Tumbler: "Yes, the Eminem-Bruno incident was staged. They rehearsed it at dress [rehearsal] and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show."

What about the angry look Eminem gave Cohen’s buttocks? Just acting.

Two Strippers Kiss

As boner-inducing as this was, I had to downvote. I can see why an artful Dita Von Tease striptease video, or a video that displays the flexibility and poise involved in the choreography of pole dancing would get sifted.. but this, not so much.

Americans Not as Stupid as Media Thinks

keitholbermann says...

QM must be a closeted bigot who is angered by Obama's skin color. Or maybe he's opposed to someone with such eloquence and poise? Obama is nothing short of a polymath who will best to lead this world once again to prosperity, better conditions for the working class, and a world we can all feel safe in.

I have so much respect for her, not just for what she said but how she actively listened and let him talk. And made her counter-arguments with wit and poise. We need more of this. Would upvote twice if I could.

Let's have some political variety (Election Talk Post)

MrFisk says...

It took awhile for me to back Obama. The first thing that impressed me was his refusal to accept PAC/lobbyist money. I could easily see a candidate saying, "Yes, the system is bad but in order to change it I must win and in order to win I must accept their money", ad nauseam. The second thing was his race speech, which every one of his advisers warned him would be political suicide. Not only did he display the leadership to buck against these advisers, he wrote the speech himself and delivered it with much needed vigor. I have watched Obama mature and I thank Hillary (in hindsight) for her relentless tenacity. McCain, on the other hand, didn't have to exert nearly as much poise, endurance, or leadership to win the Republican nomination. And now that he has won the nomination I see him being led against his will by his advisers. He had an uphill battle coming off of Bush Jr. That said, I'm in complete agreement to weigh in on both candidate's merits and faults. Simply put, Obama has been more vetted this year than McCain already. Let's just not lie when we bring in criticism of either candidate.

The Weakerthans - "One Great City!"

calvados says...

>> ^schmawy:
Do you know who the "golden business boy" line is referring to, Calvados? Mayor or the like I'd assume.
Great as always.

Your great taste in music never ceases to amaze, my schmaws And indeed I do know, as would any Winnipeggian:

The Golden Boy, a magnificently gilded 5.25M (17.2-foot) figure, is probably Manitoba's best known symbol. Embodying the spirit of enterprise and eternal youth, he is poised atop the dome of the [Manitoba Legislature] building. He faces the north, with its mineral resources, fish, forest, furs, hydroelectric power and seaport, where his province's future lies. -- http://www.gov.mb.ca/legtour/golden.html

By the way, another WT song -- a poignant one -- that heavily references the Peg and which you ought to like is "Night Windows". So far there's no good vid for it, but here is the audio and the lyrics, do tell me how you dig:
