Duke Nukem Forever: New trailer! Release date! Really?

Is it wrong to expect something better than what I just saw after 13 years of "development"?

This is not Duke Nukem Forever.
This is a freeware remake of Duke Nukem 3D in the Unreal 3 Engine.

Duke Nukem Forever - April 2010 Gameplay Video

George Broussard and his dipshit partner never had the skills to finish Duke Nukem Forever.

3D Realms was all ego, hubris and an epic dose of 'fear of failure' on the part of the developers which kept them from ever actually completing their project. They were masters of self promotion that made the mistake of believing their own hype.

The best thing that could happen to that franchise is for the original developers to lose control of the IP. Even then it's pointless. Duke Nukem was nothing but a cliched 1 dimensional character with catch phrases shamelessly reappropriated from pop culture. It was stupid luck that Duke Nukem 3D hit when it did because if it had been released at any other period in game history it would have been a total failure.

Good riddance.
Duke Nukem should stand as a cautionary tail for every developer on the importance of deadlines.

EVE Online: The Butterfly Effect

I picked this game up on a trial once, and here's how the tutorial/introduction welcomed me to the game:

Welcome to EVE! There's a small asteroid over there, go and mine it, you might find some stuff!
*i mine the asteroid*
Well done, you have mined the asteroid! Now you have minerals which you can sell. By choosing the right place to sell the minerals you may have to travel further but you will maximise your profits! Try and find more asteroids to mine, you can make more money and buy a bigger ship that will carry more minerals!
*me repeatedly spamming alt-f4*

That was the best this game had to offer me at the time i gave it a try. An endless loop of mining/selling minerals to buy a BIGGER SHIP!!!!! .......to sell more minerals with. Genuinely, that was what i was greeted with and that's what the game suggested to me, it was many years ago, perhaps the introduction is a lot more enticing these days.

And don't get me wrong, i played everquest from the day it started, the learning curve/difficulty in that game was hard as shit, but it drew me in, and that's something EVE has completely failed to do with me.

Boring, boring and boring are the three words i'd use to describe my experiences with EVE, and if a game doesn't snag your interest, it doesn't matter if it turns into HL1, HL2, quake, duke nuken forever and duke nukem 3d all wrapped into one, cos you'll never play it enough to get to that point. It's got to make you want to play.

Also, as a coincidence, i played in a TF2 clan with a guy called "lofty", who perpetrated one of the biggest ever EVE scams (so i was told) that pretty much every EVE player knows about. It was big enough to affect the whole game, iirc.

Duke Nukem Forever Leaked Gameplay Demo Reel

Zonbie says...

Doesn't look too bad - but does it look like 10 Years of Development? Hell...no. The sad fact is, that 3DRealms could have released a corker of a game, instead there waited, and waited, and changed it, and waited, and oh WOW!

Sadly, this was never going to live up to any standard - to prove a point in the time between Duke Nukem 3D and (taking) Forever - my old brother moved out of my parents house, went to university, changed career twice and got married! AND HE STILL CANT PLAY IT!

Hehe, well, it's sad to see, it could have been a hit...but it missed so many boats...

I think this one can be chalked up as...whoops.

25 Random things about me... (Blog Entry by youdiejoe)

Sarzy says...

1. I'm not actually a chimp.

2. I have a political science BA even though I'm completely apathetic when it comes to politics.

3. I am (was) related to Edward Said.

4. I hate the word "foodie."

5. I am a foodie (for lack of a better word).

6. I slept with the lights on until my first year of university.

7. I once played a racing game in an arcade with John Tesh.

8. I went to film school.

9. I'm abandoning my dreams of becoming a filmmaker and going into law school in September (assuming one will accept me).

10. One of the highlights of my life (recently at least) was actually hiring a steadicam operator for a recent short film I made (which will probably end up being the last film I ever make).

11. The most times I've ever seen a film theatrically was Punch Drunk Love (seven times).

12. I've been playing videogames since the Atari, and would definitely call myself a gamer, though I've probably only finished maybe 20 or so games all the way through.

13. I am way more of an introvert than I'd like to be (ie. I'm distressingly shy).

14. Stanley Kubrick is a god to me.

15. I cannot stand people who use the word "guesstimate".

16. I've only watched three movies at home in the last two months thanks to the humongous time-sink that is World of Warcraft.

17. The first thing I ever downloaded was a picture of Andrew Dice Clay from a BBS. It was mind-blowing.

18. I made my first website, a Duke Nukem 3D fansite, in 1996. You can still see it at the internet archive (http://web.archive.org/web/19981205233542/http://members.aol.com/knusair/duke3d/duke3d.htm).

19. When I first heard about 3D cards, I thought "a card just for 3D graphics? What a ridiculous idea, that'll never fly." I bought my first 3D card (a Monster 3D) a couple of years later.

20. I can't stand watching or playing sports of any kind (even hockey, which means I can never truly be a Canadian, despite being born here and living here all my life).

21. I can't stand the taste of beer (see above, RE: not a real Canadian).

22. My family is Palestinian on both sides, though I rarely tell people that to avoid the inevitable discussions/conflict.

23. I wear a Mickey Mouse watch.

24. I've never been in a fight.

25. I would like to one day travel to every country in the world, with the exception of the super-poor and/or scary ones (ie. I have no real desire to go to, say, Afghanistan).

Quest4Bush - Jihadi Video Game

HadouKen24 says...

It's the Half-Life engine, I suspect.

The Duke Nukem 3d engine didn't have perspective correction, which distorted the view of the level every time you looked up or down. Quest4bush clearly does not suffer from that problem.

i liked 1996... Duke Nukem 3D.. C&C: Red Alert.. and.... Quake...
might not be many others, but all 3 are among my top 3 played games in the 90s..

But most importantly.. Voodoo Graphics came and showed us (well, me atleast) the light..
when i first saw glQuake (1997), after playing software mode in 400x300, it was a religious experience.. well.. as I imagine a religious experience to be..
