How Battlestar Galactica Can Totally Ruin your Life

ex-jedi says...

I was happy with the whole thing. The last episode had too much riding on it, too many varying expectations and wishes as to where it was going to go. I think the relationships are the heart of the thing. Between Adama and Lee, Roslin, Tigh & Starbuck, Tigh & Ellen etc, that's where it rose above the standard sci-do fizz boom zap.

Now this I agree with. "Gangs" or tribes of people dominating other people is the more natural condition, not libertarian ideals. The notion of individual rights is very new, and defies the natural order of our evolution. The drift towards collective authoritarian systems is only natural, as a result. This is why, often times, I overstress the need for liberties and freedoms, because they are destined to erode, it is our natural tendency.

However, I still see the only answer to the plagues that humanity unleashes on itself as personal, individual choice and responsibility. Someone here on the sift said something to the effect that he believes that Aspergers is the next stage of human evolution, I am starting to see the wisdom in the statement. Only when the violent, overly competitive sections of our DNA are extinguished can we ever have uncompromising peace.

Commander Adama said it best "We never asked ourselves, are we worthy of survival?" It isn't enough to live, or to kill people. It isn't enough to have laws that punish evil doers. We must not have evil doers, it is the only solution that has humanity survive for any geologically significant time frame. The Meta game for humanity is only just begun.

I won't give anything away then! Well except ADAMA is a cylon! Oops, wrong show. The show is rather tedious at times, it is like a slower version of BSG. In fact, its like if you slammed BSG and Star Trek next generation together.

I loved the concept, but I hated the choice of characters. It's like in BSG: the only reason I watched that awful show was Commander Adama (and the space fights), he was THE MAN. Every other character was an overdramatized idiot who always messed things up.

What is up with this trend? I'm so tired of "humanized" characters, screwed up immature ppl who have such a hard time getting along and fight over everything.

Who would select those bozos for a 200 billion dollar space mission?

Finally Finished BSG (Blog Entry by dag)

The only thing I was mad about as far as loose ends would be Kara being the "harbinger of death." Technically, she did lead the human race to its doom, since now they'll mate with cylons and Earth natives, thereby mixing the gene pool and killing off the human species as they knew it.

But what I was really pissed about wasn't so much the climax, it was the denouement-

1). Really? Chief wants to live on an island all alone for the rest of his life? Doesn't he realize in three years he'll go completely insane and start talking to a volleyball?

2). What? Adama, too? Just cuz his chick died, he doesn't ever wanna see his son or friends again?

3). Everybody is tired of technology?? Call me insane, but I like my central air and medicine! I like comfortable living! I like knowing that the average human won't die off at age 40! All this progress they've made, ruined. Not even 150k years later have we even come close to what they had.

BSG > Terminator? When hell freezes over! They're on opposite ends of the spectrum (with Terminator on the bottom), as far as the acting, story, casting... everything really, is concerned.

BSG's more "sensitive" moments didn't come off as cheesy to me, for the most part. Aside from that damned "so say we all" bullshit, and Adama's "inspirational" speeches he likes to make every now and then.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I'm deliberately not reading this post, as I'm still working through season 3, but I'd just like to say that BSG is cheesy schmaltz most of the time. If I have to see Adama and Apollo hug once more to swelling music, I think I'm going to barf.

The Terminator series is much better, at least I'm only dealing with teen angst.

I wanted more.. I have to admit, I don't remember all the details from the whole series. And lots of the time I watched, I was very tired and a bit drunk, so I might have forgotten a lot.

Though wyhen I heard that there was going to be a Galactica remake, and Starbuck would be famela, I was not happy. I had a majot crush on Starbuck when I watched the original series, and a female Starbuck, wtf??

But I nreally grew fond of Kara! I love Aeryn Sun in Farscape, and Kara was like her.. kick-ass hero, who was soft inside. I really would have wanted to know more about her.

I really did not care much about Baltar.. He was way to weird and cryptic and crazy the whole series long. This Adama was way more human.,, and in the end, I wish he could have lived happily ever after with Roslin..

Oh, and what is the life span of a cylon like Tigh? Obviosly he eventually dies without resurrection. And what about Heras?

And what do Cylon Centurions do for fun anyway? Cruise the galaxy and.. ?

Like I said, I probably have forgotten more than I remember right now. I just wanted to know aboiot Starbuck!

I hope 'Lost' gets some better closure and explanation.
