Telectroscope Allows View Across the Atlantic
"My hometown had one of these in the late eighties. Except it wasn't a telectroscope, but several holes. And it wasn't across the atlantic, but through the wall in the showers of the local gym."
...except it wasn't the showers at the local gym, it was a bathroom stall. And it wasn't several holes, but just one?
I know what you're talking about. We've got one of those at the bus-station. Not that I've ever used it...well, one time I put a quarter in. To see if it worked, like.

Chipotle Challenge - 4 burritos in 25 minutes, run a mile
>> ^maatc:
This reminds me of something called "Kastenrennen" (crate race) in my hometown of Hamburg.
Two guys have to carry a full 24 bottle crate of beer a distance of 7.4 kilometers around a lake (4.6 Miles) and it has to be empty when they cross the finish line.
There are different tactics: Some teams sit down and empty the case at the start, which means they have to run four and a half miles drunk, and others drink it in front of the finish line, which means you have to carry a heavy crate around the track...
Fastest team gets a crate of beer from all the other losing teams. You also have to bring a third person that functions as a referee for another team, making sure they don´t pour out the beer...
Now THAT would be a video to see!

Amazing Half-Life 2 Inspired Viral Campaign
cool, thats actually my hometown (nijmegen, NL),
the youtube is promoting www.whatsinthebox.nl but not really any clues there. i'm guessing it's a viral for a new phone or maybe just some arty math-obsessed student project, great viral either way.
also: they must have watched J.J. Abrams: The mystery box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpjVgF5JDq8
Lady In White ~ trailor
this is an actual ghost story, from my hometown - Rochester, NY.
the writer/director (Frank LaLoggia) basically wrote himself, as a kid ("Frankie Scarlatti"), into what was already a well-established local legend.
good flick. Lukas Haas there, shortly after starring in Witness with Harrison Ford.

VideoSift Fundraiser (Sift Talk Post)
Unbeknownst to most people, siftbot actually feeds on children, which means the donated money in the end will go to the local orphanage near dag's hometown. That orphanage needs the cash - you wouldn't hurt an orphanage, would you? Put a dollar in the box!
A tour of a city in ruins, Detroit
My old hometown. At least in Robocop they had the nice areas, and a Robocop.
I can also imagine the number of burnt out homes rising along with the foreclosures.

Gogol Bordello - Wonderlust King
Back in the day yo as we learned
A man was not considered to be
Considered to be fully grown
Has he not gona beyond the hills
Has he not crossed the 7 seas
Yeah, 7 seas at least!
Now all them jokers kept around
Just like the scarecrows in hometown
Yeah, scarecrows in hometown
From screen to screen they're travelin'
But I'm a wonderlust king
I stay on the run
Let me out
Let me be gone
In the world's beat up road sign
I saw new history of time...
New history of time!!!
Through Siberian woods
Breaking up their neck
Chinese moving in building discoteques
Homemade sex toys and whatnot
Yeah, and why not?
Well at least it's something different
From what they got in every other airport
Ja ne evrei, no koje-chto pohozge
sovrat ne dast ni Yura ni Seryozga!
Simple because I'm not a total gadjo
Da ja shut, ja tziratch, nu tak stozge?
I traveled the world
Looking for understanding
Of the times that we live in
Hunting and gathering first hand information
Challenging definitions of sin
I traveled the world
Looking for lovers
Of the ultimate beauty
But never settled in
I'm Wonderlust King!
And presidents
And billionaires
And generals
They'll never know
What I have owned!
What I have owned...
I'm a wonderlust king

Yeah Madsen is part of the same sound from northern Germany, though they are not from Hamburg.
You might also want to check out Selig, another a bit rockier act from Hamburg (and sometimes also a bit psychedelic)
There are a few more popular german acts with female leads, though they are usually more pop than rock. Check em out anyway, some good tracks from some of them.

Wow, thanks a lot! I can really see what you mean with them having the same style of music, they've all got that sort of clean electric guitar thing going on for the most part. These bands sound decent, but I think I really like Tomte's music better from what I've heard so far (listened to two songs by each of the bands you linked me to). I really liked the vocals on Blumfeld's "Tics" and Pohlmann's "Fluechten." Most of those bands were a little more pop than my tastes, but Virginia Jetzt! had a pretty cool rock feel to them. I noticed they have Madsen as one of their friends, a band that I plan to check out.
Another German band I recently got into is Slut, I think Schmawy or somebody sifted one of their songs on here a while back.

Yeah,
they are from my hometown Hamburg and have become quite big lately.
In the recent years a few bands emerged from Hamburg with the same style of music.
It even lead to the coining of the term "Hamburger Schule" (Hamburg School) to describe it.
