Sylvester_Inksays...For those that may not know, the subatomic particles being emitted by the radioactive sample (most likely alpha particles) streak through the air at a high enough speed to quickly compress the air in front of it. After it passes, the air decompresses rapidly and water vapor is formed. This leaves a visible trail of water vapor, much like the trail left behind a jet as it flies at high speeds.
