It staggers me that even Brzezinski says we have to withstand the next 20+ months before we can make the world all good again. WTF? Most all agree Bush is seriously bad for the US and the world.. One could argue that Brzezinski is responsible in some measure for our foreign policy woes -- it was he who twisted Jimmy Carter's arm into arming and training what would become al Qaeda against the Soviets in Afghanistan.

Maybe so, but did he also insist that they just leave them at it after the Soviets left? This is, as I understand it, where things went bad since it allowed a fundamentalist government to seize control, etc. etc.

I would think if he was pressing to help the Afganis take the fight to the Russians, there may have been some merit in that. As i'm told and have read, the Cold War was a pretty serious time, and the chance to beat a nuclear enemy without directly engaging it must've seen as an important opportunity.
