Wright Brothers First Flight

On December 17, 1903, the Orville and Wilber Wright launched their powered aircraft at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. It traveled a distance of 39 meters (120 feet).

To be more accurate, they launched a glider equipped with an engine with a fricken catapult, published notice of it in a beekeeping magazine, then spent the next five years suing everyone else actually working on flight claiming they had a patent on powered flight. Like Edison, the Wright Brothers lose respect the more you learn about them.

According to the captions, this isn't the first flight anyway. This is an altitude record set in 1908 in France. There are clearly two people in the cockpit, and the first flight was by Orville only.
