What's wrong with equality legislation?

Bristol University's Professor of Jurisprudence highlights how families, schools, etc. do not exist simply to promote government policy but are independent sources of authority within civil society.

Upvote because I think what he is saying is informed and can cross over to anyone and any religion. He doesn't argue for his personal religion but for freedom of religion in general. Which, is just asking for space for the religion to exist with some tolerance. I'm sure this can open up an entire debate with militant atheists and such but freedom is all anyone can ask for. And I think tolerance is all anyone could/should expect.

What legislation is he talking about? Are churches in the UK tax exempt? Are there any churches in the UK which pay taxes to avoid gov entanglement?
