Youtube description: During the first dive of the morning, we came upon a mature whale shark in some amount of distress due to a large rope cinched around it's girth. It must have been there for some time, as the rope was encrusted with barnacles, and was cutting deeply into the flesh of the shark. On the second dive of the morning, we located the same whale shark once again, and with Eddy (dive guest) on the scene with his "Go Pro" camera, we were able to memorialize the rescue. In the video you will see Dave (dive guide) approach the shark from the front, and Dani (dive guide) swim to the shark from above. You will see Dani successfully cut the rope loose, freeing the shark which slowly swims away. At the end, you will see Eddy's wife, Gina, knuckle-bump Dani, as we all celebrate together. We brought the rope back to the boat, and found it was about 2 inches in diameter, so perhaps an anchor or mooring line? How it got wrapped around the shark is a mystery.

articiansays...That's awesome. I'd like to think in 100 million years, this will be a recorded story along the lines of:
"And the creatures of the above-world came down through the great light. There they freed 'sweedleeeezingoooo' from his unworldly bonds which he had born for so many currents. And Lo' they rejoiced in their work, shaking their appendages light-ward in celebration of their good deed"
That aside: Per the comments, why does it have to be a "GoPro" camera? Can't it just be "A CAMERA"? Fuck "GoPro". Is there seriously anything signifanctly different between this stupid little brand name and a regular, versatile camera? Other than the fact that someone manages to squeeze in their stupid little trademarked brand into so many good videos? The volume of it's invasion into the world of youtube videos has made me resolute to never buy one, and hate them outright.
robbersdog49says...Maybe just because it is a GoPro camera?
If it isn't then it's because GoPro are better at marketing than the other manufacturers. That's the significant difference you're looking for. Welcome to a free market, that's the way it works. It's a strange thing to hate them for, but I suppose it takes all sorts.

Reefiesays...Was it just my imagination or did that whale say a little thank-you before swimming off?
sillmasays...It's a stupid phenomenon, but the gopro camera IS pretty amazing for its package and especially for the price. I do also hate that type of stuff, it's especially prominent with iPhone users. It's never "I called him the other day", it's always "I called him with my iPhone the other day", and if there's even a slightest chance to say iPhone instead of phone or something along the lines, iPhone users usually take it.

sepatownsays...I think it being a shark and not a whale suggests to me that it wasn't the origin of that noise.
Was it just my imagination or did that whale say a little thank-you before swimming off?
siftbotsays...No Cage Diving with Great White Sharks has been added as a related post - related requested by Norsuelefantti on that post.
