There's no penalty involved in making stuff up. It's protected speech, so no criminal liability, and no-one gives a shit about facts anyway - FOX news has an obvious, open conservative bias and people watch it precisely because it puts out a slanted view of the world. It's not just Fox, either, although they're easy to pick on. These days the preceived quality of reporting seems for many to be directly linked with how well that reporting supports their own world view.

Journalism isn't there to make people feel good about the way they think. It's there to make people feel bad about it.

Fox had a dilemma. They had all this fear-inducing terrorism footage, but no context in which to insert it into the Healthcare debate. Random statistic research data to the rescue! No one understands that crap anyway.

Fox et al are clearly just defending a profit making culture that serves only the rich and lets the poor suffer. I work for the NHS and to see it rubbished by the kind of out right lying and propaganda by the greedy American corporate shits makes me shake with rage. Death panels and terrorist doctors, what the fuck. I've seen absolutely no hopers treated and care has only ever been withdrawn when all avenues have been exhausted. I have worked with lots of muslims and all have been as caring and professional as any home grown doctor. How such bull shit should become the centre of a serious debate beggars belief. If this is the how America goes about making serious decisions then it is in real trouble.
