The saddest moment in video game history - Final Fantasy VII

*************Warning, Major Spoiler Alert*************
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is considered by many to be the saddest moment in video game history - the death of Aeris. At the time, the production values were high and the graphics cutting edge.

Aeris was the kindly flower girl who helped Cloud Strife on his quest to defeat Sepheroth. Don't worry, she comes back at the end of the game as some kind of disembodied-Japanese-nature-spirit-god-thingy and kicks some butt.

If this one gets sifted, I'll post Aeris' revenge from the end of the game. The score for this game is also pretty nice, and there are full orchestral versions of this theme on the internets for those who like it.
Kreegathsays...

Never really got into the game due to it's... let's say "special" graphics. Was more annoying to lose a character you spent time leveling due to a completely random plot twist. But I can definately see how it's sad to people who play with lego.
Great Shadowgate music at the start though.

Zyrxilsays...

I really hate this scene. It's not a bad scene, even though it wasn't touching to me. I hate it because of the insane fandom associated with FF7, a good RPG with a story even Hideo Kojima would be ashamed to writ. I hate the people who see it as the most poignant scene in a game, or in cinema ever. God, do I hate those people.
