Cosmic Slop was an HBO Scifi series hosted by George Clinton

“The Space Traders’ Solution” is a racial parable written in science fiction form. In summary, on New Year’s Day in the year 2000, great waves of huge vessels descend on the United States and their extraterrestrial leaders announce they are here to make a trade offer: Give up all African-Americans and in return they will leave for America the contents of their ships—enough gold to retire the national debt, a magic chemical that will cleanse America’s polluted skies and waters, and a limitless source of safe energy to replace our dwindling reserves. Following roughly two weeks to consider the offer, heated public debate leads to a referendum that when approved, consigns all blacks to the traders.

I think it's hilariously shortsighted that they don't even consider "free will". And that they get value by just "making gold" - if you can make gold for free, then the value of it is 0, unless it has a practical application. The scarcity of a thing dictates its value, unless we make value up, like with paper money.

You should read the complete story, in print. This is only one part of the film.

And I take it you would turn down a Statue of Liberty-sized hunk of gold, since its market value would lower? Governments around the world can make money for free, yet its value isn't zero.

Oh yeah, longde, I'll give you that the full story is likely much more thought out.

I would turn it down, because it's not my place to sacrifice other people. If they went willingly sure, but otherwise I would not. Of course, you can construct scenarios where I WOULD do it, if the world is completely collapsing and they offer a trade to fix it in exchange for some horrendous thing, but such thought experiments are not always productive in the end.

I personally could sure use a huge hunk of gold, but if someone can make gold for free, then the whole point is moot - the value of my gold is like any other crappy metal, very small. A pretty paper weight.
