Oh wow...this is the best recent Simpsons bit I've seen in some time. Loved the Twelve Monkeys music and the Gorey-esque animation.

I assume they were parodying Sweeney Todd (which I haven't seen for a while). The music is similar, as is the theme.

Hooray for Edward Gorey. When I was a kid I read John Bellairs novels illustrated by Edward Gorey, and still love his art. Those novels used to scare the stuffing out of me, and as it turns out they have a lot of Lovecraftian horrors in them- no wonder I got so scared.
