The Cutest Lil' Killing Machine- Battle Angel Alita

Rocking clips from the 1993 anime Gunnm, which was based on my favorite manga series Battle Angel Alita... it's set in a crazy future world populated by cybernetics-enhanced humans and freaks. Doc Ido, an outcast from the floating world of Tiphares, finds a broken cyborg girl and puts her back together. She awakens and Ido cares for her while she tries to remember who she is, however, it is soon made pretty apparent that she possesses all kinds of mad ass-kickin' skillz... anime insanity soon follows. I loved the manga, my favorite phrase I picked up from it is, "Grand Theft Spinal-Cord".

Alita indeed is the best manga series, period. The story, which consists of like 17 graphic novels at this time, explores the ramifications of a post-human world. In a time where your entire body can be replaced with machine parts, what is the essence of being human? What compels the human race to endlessly repeat its mistakes despite attempts at reengineering? What drives the human mind?

The artwork is unrivaled, the story is awesome, and Alita is the ultimate fighter.

Note that "Battle Angel Alita" is also known as GUNNM - literally "gun dream", referring not to dreaming of guns but +what a gun dreams of+.

Here is some earlier CG work that came out:

There is an Alita game for PS2 (Japan) called GUNNM: Martian Memory.

The novels are at most local comic stores ("Battle Angel Alita" is the first series, then "Battle Angel Alita: Last Order" is the new series, still ongoing):
