Well a minor correction to the description. The early US Patriots were trying to become the world's next empire, it's not like they fell into it accidentally. America was by design an Empire, it always has been, it's just not written that way for obvious reasons. Since the early days when were were driving the native Americans beyond the stony mountains, to the 20th century and our need to control the hemisphere. This wasn't an accident, it was planned which is why we slipped into it so well, and weren't questioning it for the longest time. It took forever for actual organized resistance to Imperialism to occur, it's done pretty well and it's still got a long way to go.
